Boredom Factor

Well just finished my first and only game on Noble. Took a while (epic) but its done. Found it a bit repetitive after the last few units advances were made. no enough variety and the same old rinse repeat crap with war, and diplomacy just started get to me.

And thats just after one game. maybe its no unit variety or maybe the simplicity of "rock/paper/scissors" combat. donno.

Anyone else got that problem? or should i just play on faster speeds?

All I build after I get composites are Mech Infantry and Modern Armor, there's really no point in building anything else.

Ill guess ill just go back to Men of Iron 2.....to bad

I was a real fan of CivII, something got lost in translation. Too fancy maybe too buzy, too much micromanagement. What happened just straight hammer/food/money production?

Actually after the last tech, its usually the space race everyone is going after. What size map do you play on?

There's still not enough variety in late game units. I don't understand why they obsolete Marines, having an Amphibious unit can still be useful.

So you won a game. Yes, it gets repetitive when you are stomping everyone. Hint: that's when you've already won. No need to play it out.

Why not try playing the game where it is hard, like say Emperor level or above? Noble won't seriously challenge someone who's mastered an earlier Civ game. If you're such a hot shot, you're just the person to try Diety level.

Also, if you want a challenge... try the One City Challenge (OCC). You can find a checkbox for this in the Custom Game screen.

If i am bored i find that drinking a bunch of whiskey sometimes helps. You could try that.

So you go out of your way to check boxes so that conquest is the only way to win... then you complain about... having to conquer?

Try to play with your hands tied behind your back and pressing the keys with your nose .... this should add an interesting flavor to the game !

Yeah, it's all fun and games until your drunken hotseat nemesis spills his drink on your PC and shorts out your DVD drive. (AKA: "How I Learned That CivII Is Not An After-Bar Activity")

I found civII more tedious at the end because there were so few ways to win, and I spent the whole turn running around sabotaging production, swarming cities and micromanaging.

Play a harder difficulty, it gets harder to win so quickly. Or like Immaculate turn it into a drinking game. (Every time Kate flirts with me I'll do a shot...)

Remember the insanely caravan-rushed pyramids in CivII? Good times ...

This is good advice, IMHO. Methodical crushing victories on lower levels, as noted, get tedious. Play at the upper levels and you'll have a lot more to worry about than keeping your eighth tank at full health while you steamroll the other civs. The game gets vastly more interesting when you simply can't do everything you'd like to.

Oh and FWIW, I'd stick with the longer speeds, personally. Fast(er) speeds limit your relative military opportunities via fewer moves and more rapid obsolescence, and are generally less fun anyway, IMHO.

Step up a level or two, try default settings, and don't be afraid to take a loss or two in trying things out (go random civ too potentially). You'll (have to) learn things quickly, and will discover interesting nuances to the game (e.g. the easy conquesting at lower levels will be replaced not only by tougher battles, but a far greater potential detriment to your empire's financial strength, which will in turn matter even more with fear of a spaceship). Give it another shot or two, but don't limit the game so much (I used to do conquest-only long ago too, but can't imagine going back). Good luck!

You're right, the whole game suck: it's the whole same tech race and after you win... or you just can't match the AI and then you lose... so the solution is not to play to harder difficulty levels...
