Funny situation in the final mission of campaign

Well here I am on the final mission of the campaign. Difficulty set to cakewalk because of failing it several times before at normal. I have one planet left, O-something. The Dread Lords have everything else. All my allies are gone. Before wiping me out the DLs have been telling me they plan to, which gives me the chance to talk to them. I select peace treaty and they accept every time. I've been doing this so long that I have completed research of most of the tech tree. I still need to research mass drivers and missile lines.

I've also been pumping freighters with a single hyperwarp engine on each every turn. With these I set up all 12 trade routes I can at this point between my one planet and the DL occupied Earth. Evey time the DLs speak to me to initiate the war all the trade routes get canceled. However, by that point I already have enough freighters sitting next to Earth to reconnect them immediately. This has greatly aided my budget and research.

I've also learned that I can build all the military stargases I want in DL space without them complaining on bit. Howver, if I plop an influence base anywhere they complain all the time. So I plan to build a military base or 3 near every planet I want to take to give my ships a little more edge.

Soon, however, I'll be ready to start building my attack and invasion fleets. Then I'll just take over everything before capturing the target planet.

Hmm... interesting tactic, though you'd have to be very patient to carry it out, and I doubt it'd work on any level higher than cakewalk.
