Question Anyone else having a problem with city graphics?

Ok, here's my problem.

I am making new graphics for my mod. Not of all the things in Civ 4 but just the new units amongst other things.

Now the new unit graphics are fine, however, I decided to make some new medieval and later Wall textures and new Ancient, Medival, and modern city graphics and for some odd reason, they look wrong. Basically what is happening is, when I go into the game everything looks ok close up, it's when I zoom out and move the camera the new city graphics seem to be dancing around. It's like they are pixally. I've even tried to blur the images but it doesn't seem to help at all.

What's really strange about this is that I am using, for the most part, textures that already exist in the game and just I'm changing the colors of them in some cases.

Unfortunately, it is pointless for me to post any screenshots of this problem because it would look fine. It is only when I am zoomed out and pan the camera in any direction does this problem occur. It's kind of hard on the eyes.

Is there anyone else that has had this problem that might now how to fix it?

Are you putting in MipMap layers? Your GPU fakes 3D perspective by using these layers -- each is exactly 1/4 the size of the previous layer, so that as your camera zooms in or out you see a different layer, saving the GPU the effort of scaling each texture/skin.

GIMP can't handle MipMap layers, so I've stopped trying. This is a problem with terrain textures, too; if your textures don't have layers and you don't have a super-GPU, when you move the camera the terrain moves unevenly.

At least, that's what I think is your problem...

ahh that explains it. Thanks

I am not actually using GIMP... in fact this forum is the place I first heard about GIMP.

I am using PSP 7. I use the DDS converter to covert the dds file to a TGA... and well I guess I lose the layers when this happens... is there a way to convert the file and keep the layers... and if so how would I go about doing that?

Well actually it wasn't just that... I also wasn't converting the mipmaps with the dds converter...

Suffice it to say I am now and got it all working... no more dancing pixels.

Yeah with the converter if it is set to 0 it is automatically detected and exported. This is what I am doing now and exporting the file as a psd. I don't have photoshop but psd files still work in psp 7.

Now I have modified City Textures for all eras.
