The Naval Quota Act of 1070

As a citizen of the United Fanatica Empire, I know that our great Seafaring nation needs to expand its influence elsewere, whether it be Rome, Mongolia, Zululand or even other places. To do this, as an islandic nation, is to keep a large navy ready to explore, transport ground forces across the Sea, Patrol our waters and Attack opposing fleets.

I am proposing a Quota to be in place once our great economic troubles are over. It will be 2 ships for every three cities. At Least!

Feel free to discuss, and if need be, change the numbers around as you please

I bet the Colonists will like this one...

It's too early to build up an offensive navy now. We shld wait till we get cruisers at least IMHO.

An adequate fleet of transports will do for now.

I would rather build a small powerful fleet to protect our naval lanes and more army units for ferrying across to conquer to new lands. Navy won't give us more cities.

Aargh!

Your right... I forgot we are in the ancient age...

Perhaps holding this one off until Steam Power... and then the serving MIlitary Advisor can post this again...

But then again, we do need more triremes...

Here we go again...

How about for every 3 cities, 1 trireme at least. That sounds good, to ferry troops around...

I would rather base the no of tiremes on the naval traffic and the no of crucial naval lanes. Maybe 1-2 more for exploration purposes.

Ships are so useful for transport - especially on island maps. I have to admit that I often find myself low on ships.

I would hesitate before making too many right now, however. Probably 3 would be a decent number (probably fits to your ratio of 1:3 anyway ) The danger is that before galleons, the trireme and the caravel are both considered military and will count for unhappiness should we switch governments.

Perhaps we could hold off until caravels are available and build one at that point to supplement our navy transport.

Good idea to get us thinking about this!

Some triremes, but if you're going to make an offencive navy, make sure we are going to have Leo's (Or have we already got that? I havent had an extremely good look around yet)

Yes, a strong navy of both warships and transports is definitely needed. But as I understand it, we can only build triremens for now. We should not build triremes for naval superiority purposes. Let´s either wait until magnetism is avalible or we have secured Leo´s.
