Term 7 Election for the Office of the President

The President is a member of the Triumvirate. The duties of the Triumvirate include issuing stop orders, declaring a state of mobilization, and appointing the Director of Intelligence.
In addition, the President is tasked with defining a budget, resolving disputes between officials, controlling settlers and naval units, and is given all powers not expressly given to another official and not retained by the Citizens Assembly.

General Overview

As President I would like to see some progression and communication. Last term didn't go to well for us. We didn't have enough participation, official positions weren't filled, people went mysteriously absent and worst of all the judiciary jumped on every issue. Luckily, this term has been much better, and even though Nobody has been absent without notice, things have ran pretty smoothly.

I also noticed as Minister of the Interior that the Governor's have effectivly worked together to not only solve individual problems, but also worked together to solve each others problems. The Governor's Council Thread I set up was the most active council thread in all this demogame. To me communication is the key to success and I plan on strengthing this nation's communication.

War

War hit us a little too early this term, nether the less, we still must fight it. I propose the first 10 turns we send a few suicide chariots to pillage German territory, while moving axes to the front line. After the mandatory 10 turns, we will ask for a cease-fire. During the 10 turn cease-fire we should build up our defense and get ready for a German wave. Once we effectivley defend our borders from German scum, we should break our fron-line slightly and send two or so stacks of troops to take Berlin. Once we take Berlin, we will call for a peace treaty. If Bismark still doesn't want a peace treaty we can take one of their small cities and hold it ransom. Of course we would be giving back that city, as our economy doesn't support it. There is a possibility of razing it, but it may effect our relations too much.

Also this may be a long war. I recommend the front-line cities all build units, except for one city which will build a hapiness providing building. Once the happiness city is done, it will build units and the next city will build a happiness building. This will work like a rotation.

Economy
Our economy isn't at full strength right now and were going into a second war. War is my first priority, however after that I plan on lobbying for the establishment of markets in towns to help cut out our deficit. I will also lobby for the MoS to take a path that will give us economic civic choices, since another war is going to seem a little far away.

Communication & Community
As I said before communication is the key to success. I also feel we don't have much of a tight knit community.

First I proposed a live chat between government officials and citizens every few days, but many people were opposed. I do see that there are time zone restrictions and it is obviously impossible for everyone to be on at once, but many people were opposed to something being off forums.

So, a solution to this is to have a thread in the government forum. I will maintain said thread. Three days before a turnchat, I will bring up the current issues and discussions from the citizen's thread, and the government official who pertains to said issue will talk about the options and say which one he favors. Then other officials will have a chance to talk about how the favored decision will affect their jobs as well, and what decision they think will not only solve that problem but help solve other national problems. Many decisions an official makes solve the problem at hand, but un-intentionally may cause other problems that are not in their power. This will help eliminate these side-effect like problems. After the governemnt officials have all talked the citizens will have a chance to speak their voice.

I will bring up one issue at a time, so there is no confusion. Also, decisions made in this thread aren't written in stone, but must be taken into consideration by the official which the issue pertains to.

I also like President Nobody's ideas, but he failed to carry them out. He added a few un-official positions and tried to set-up a few threads that benefit the citizens (ie. press secetary and news thread.) I want to increase the information available to the public as much as possible. Oldbus is doing a great job of cartographer right now, but there is still a little un-organization in the information available to the public.

Designated Players
I plan to manage the Designated Players according to the new ammendment to the CoL that was recently passed. More on this issue later.

Seeing as this is the only election other than the DP this should be good.

Questions for the Canidates:

1. How to you plan to manage our finances?
2. What is your stance on the German war?
3. Do you plan on remaining active through the entire term?

A platform post is on the way...

Vind
1. Finances...research as fast as possible if teh new tech gives us a updated unit. I dont know what the new MoS will decide. Then once we are able to build that unit ( hopefully maces) slow down the tech to build up a treasury to upgrade the axes we have to maces. We need both catapults and maces in order for this war to be "easy".

2. I would rather that we didnt have to fight it right now. BUT they started it adn we wil finish it. I am in favor of seeing if we can get a 10 turn cease fire form Bismark.. without gving him anything. BUT for that to happen we hav eto fight off any inclusions in to our territory and scare him by building our power number up quickly and showing him some of the units in action. Taking a city will help the cause and perhaps the city on the lake would make a juicy bargining chip. The 10 turns gives us breathing room to build up a force and then crush Germany...not completely but a small war to prune his numbers back. We need to balance our war with what our economy can handle...lesson from the end of the mongolian war. Small control expansions..unless we want to win by domination

3. I have never missed posting instructions in a turn chat. I have been a Tri member for 4 consecutive terms. I dont plan on going anywheres thsi month and I am on here everyday.

I thankyou for your swift responce to my question. I await Ice2k4 responce.

Sorry all, I never even got to finish my platform. I had to leave my house a few minutes after Sigma posted the election.

Anyway

1) My first priority is the German War. All though it is not in my complete power I will push for more units unitl we can sucessfully defend and capture Berlin. Once the war is over, I will try and de-mobilize our economy. This will include the production of markets in such cities, so we begin to get a small amount of gold back. Some post-war units will have to be disbanded, but I don't plan on that many.

2) I have pretty much the same stance as Robboo. The war hit us a little too soon. I do however support a cease-fire (only if needed) after 10 turns. In that time we should build units, and prepare the march on Berlin. However, we must defend first. We should not make a move on Berlin until we are very sure that we have drained Germany of their units and we can successfully defend our fine borders. I do not support, however, taking a city besides Berlin unless we decide to hold it for ransom in peace-treaty talks. I would like to see us take Berlin in this war, but if the war persits too long, we may jsut have to settle for peace.

On another note, I would also like to bribe Russia into the war against Germany. This should effectivle help us split their forces and defend. Divide and Conquer.

3) This term I had many real-life issues, (still I have never missed posting instructions) but I've cleared them all up. I do not plan on being away this term and I should be here everyday.

Could you please elaberate? Which issues do you feel the Judiciary "jumped on" and what did the Judiciary do that was bad? IMHO, I don't think enough got done in this term's Judiciary.

Well mostly Donsig, who was only doing his job as CJ, began to jump on most of Daveshack's decision that were made through common sense, instead of following the exact, written in stone procedures of our CoL. I respect our CoL, but not ever situation is written in it, and some times there needs to be a common sense ruling.

Also, I recognize the judiciary didn't do much this term, but was there any need for it this term. In my opinion, it is ok for the judiciary to have a less active term, as long as they are jumping on the right subjects.

Platform (Post #2) updated.

Sorry for the delay I wanted to look at the save before writing this.

Platform
The situation is bleak and without extreme sacrifices by our people we may lose the City Basilica. Righ tnow all available troops need to be heading to teh front lines to defend Basillica. Until military production can supply us with enough troops to force Germany to the bargining table or until we can counterattact.

I want to have Tri meeting in the forum where we can reach a consensus among the various ministries as to the best way to accomplish our goals. Right now may be a good time to reconsider building our great wonder as the chops and hammers could be used for military production. This would harm us long term but right now our short term problems seem to be more important. It does no good to build the wonder if Germany is going to own it.

I want to finish this war and start on an agressive city specialization campaign to stream line our cities to be more efficient. One way of doing this is with forges since we have gems, a forges is not only a production building but also a happiness building. Even commerce cities or cultural cities with excess health but low happiness can benefit from forges.

I have been a member of the Tri for 4 consecutive terms and I have seen many different president try many differnt things. The first thing that I know is that the President can not force people to join...but instead only appoint people to fill in the open positions and hope that more peope come to the game. In addition, we havent talked more about our distant future, all discussions have been very narrow in scope. Only worrying about the next TC or the this term. We need to start planning longer term than that. We are behind in tech, we dont have any specialized cities and I beleive we only produced one Great Person. We can kid ourselves and say we are in a good position but the truth is..we are not in a good position. We need to change that quickly before we fall to far behind to catch up.

Two questions to Robboo, bu Ice's opinions would be welcome also:

1. you mentioned stopping the Globe Theatre. What would be your plans and timeframes for Fort Impervious, coinsidering the production levels there?
2. you mention specialisation of cities. What cities do you see being specialised, and seeing as though you only have a term or two as president, how will you go forward on this task?

1. Only stop the globe IF Basillica falls and another city is getting ready to fall. After this TC we will know Basillicas fate I think. I know that may be wasted hammers on teh globe but I really want it to be built.

2. Old Sarai which I am currently mayor of needs to be made into a prodcution city. IT can supports a full population and pump out enough commerce to support it plus 40 plus hammers without a forge.
Fort Impervious obviously with the globe become a GA farm.( I hope we can pull the globe off )
Toot would be a good production city IF we can increase the food there..BUT that migth cost us a cottage.
BW and New Port city with the universitys need to be science cities... we shoudl try to run a high population
MG needs to be a good commerce city with as many sea tiles being worked.

IT cant happen in 1 or 2 terms and thats the problem we have been facing..no concerted long term plans. Hence we dont have a clue what our plan is for victory and that is begining to be a problem. I dont know how to change it but MAYBE we can pass some sort of directive or something that says we are working for victory condition x and Y that hopefully will be followed by who ever follows.

Even if I lose this race..I will still try to get the city specialization started and push for discussion on victory conditions. We cant deny that we are in a sorry shape right now. I have never pull off a win in a game that has this sort of economic and military problems this late in the game...especailly with out a religion to assist in winning friends and building economic growth with shrines and the production bonus

These decisions are not in my power, however:

1) I don't see that we should stop the Globe Theater unless one of our cities is captured.

2) I would like to see Fort Impervious become a GP farm and also agree that Old Sarai has the potential to be a workhorse (production city)

Hi Robboo, hi all!

Thesis and final state exam in RL went ok, so I'm back to help to move our great nation forward.
