Lord of the Rings - Battle for Middle Earth

I was just wondering if anybody out there has beat the Helm's Deep level in the good campaign on Medium difficulty. I beat the entire campaign on easy, but i am stuck on that level on medium.

If anybody has any advice or strategies that would be very helpful.

My strategy was to hold a level, and then fall back when it became all too much.

Usually I was eventually bottled up in the keep. If you can, hold the second level with infantry and heroes, and keep archers on the top. Hold off (or fight a slow retreat) the enemy from getting through that final arch until Gandalf & Co. arrives.

what i do is that i load up with archers and then improve them all to have flaming arrows. Then i get some horses and keep them on the walls, whenever an orc gets on top of a wall, i have the horses run over them. Also, build a well right next to the wall, this way, when an archer/any unit is hit, he can heal almost instantly.

My main problem is when the Mine comes, i always shoot it with flaming arrows to detonate it, but it is still close enough to destroy my wall. The i send all my heroes up to the top, and abandon the rest of my castle. I cant seem to close the left gate on the top level. Is it supposed to be uncloseable? Because i cant close it i build as many rohirim as i can, and i can hol out for a while using my heroes and rohirim, but eventually i am overrun.

Dont use flaming arrows to detonate it, just kill them with regular arrows. Have a few heroes on the wall and few outside the wall (create one of those doors so they can quickly go in and out) to quickly kill the mine bearers. If the situation becomes dangerous for your heroes outside bring them in to heal.

Helm's Deep is easy even with Insane AI on the second one during a skirmish.

Just archer rape, they'll never get close.

He's referring to b4me2, where you can set up skirmishes against the AI at helms deep. Meant to be a greater challenge.

My tactic for the first game was to hold off buying any units until you could build elves from your archery range.

Upgrade the elves to fire arrows ASAP, sit them up on the walls. Sit Boromir on the top of the wall to help deal with any ladders... but seriously, you should destroy ladders before they get to your walls. Same with mines. Put all your archers into teams, and used them to 'snipe' these siege weapons as they get close.

Sit Aragorn, Eowyn and Gimli just inside the postern gate to go out and skirmish if needs be. Have a cavalry unit ready to go out with Theoden as back up. Legolas can also pick off more or less anything that comes near.

No reason that they should actually get inside Helm's Deep at all, once you work out the flow of the battle.

That being said, the first time I played it it took me ages to finish. I ended up only just holding out on the top level... :P

Have you played the sequel to BFME? It tries to deviate from the movies and return to the books. Looks a lot less like the movies.

Ya I really enjoy number one, and wish that I could buy BFME2, but unfortuneatly I just dont have the money. One thing that i heard is different in 2 is that instead of only being able to build your base on the custom layout, you can build it however you want. How does this effect gameplay? Which system do u think is better?
