Greetings fellow fanatics
long time reader, first time poster While enjoying the betapatches advances I´m already a lil jealous as to what´s coming up with the warlords add on. Since ,from what I understand, Civ4 is pretty much based on the 3 modable levels, how hard would it be to adapt it to the existing mac civ4 engine ? I assume one or the other unit /building could be imported right away via a warlords mod ,yet some parts seem to be hooked to the engine. I`m in no way a coder nor would I propose a Mod-ripp off version of warlords, but wouldnt it be great if the Mac version of Warlords wouldnt take another year for portation. oLO(rd) PS:Sincerest thanks to the MAc portees, really appreciate the hard work and efford you put into the betapatch release! |

Yes, it would be fantastic if we didn't have to wait for warlords. That's the only reason I'm bootcamping my mac. Otherwise, I'd have bought CivMac already.
To your question, the leaders and civs would be easy to mod in. Just add the warlords content (art and xml) to your custom assets directory. The new units will be only just as easy. Where it gets tricky is the new abilities that weren't in vanilla Civ. For instance, the Great Wall. That ability isn't something you can assign to an XML wonder in vanilla civ. Maybe they did it through python. Maybe they did it through SDK. If so, a good modder could probably make it work. Unfortunately, there's bound to be something they change to teh code outside the core dll (beyond the reach of the SDK). So, I suppose if you bought a warlords PC disc and spent the next six months modding, you could get close. But you couldn't share it as the art assets aren't yours to share. And an echo of thanks to Brad et al at Aspyr who'll have a customer once warlords comes out.
