Dxt 1 opaque a memorysaver?

It might be nitpicky but dxt 1 opaque is almost half the size of dxt 3 and seems to work perfectly with the game concerning buttons at least. I didn't test for skins yet but I will possibly do this as well. Does anyone know a reason why NOT to use it?

Edit: it also seems to work with skins I even can't notice lower quality. If there is no other reason I can't discover now this could save more than a third of memory for modelskins as well. Especially mods with regiments could greatly profit from that!
Any hook to it?

As far as I know you should use DXT-3 if you don't have 1-bit alpha channel (yes or no), meaning you have some gradient for half-transparency or teamcolor. Otherwise use DXT-1.

So if I don't need teamcolor or transperancy for a particular model or part of it you mean it should be fine then? That'll be great since I don't have much use for tc.

There even exists DXT-1 without alpha channel but it has the same size as with a.c. so I don't really know what's the advantage.
