Another Stupid Question.....
1. If you build a city on top of a resource (Like Cow for example) do you reep the full benefit of that resource as you would if it was a tile with a pasture upgrade?
2. How the heck can you tell what Civic (in Warlords) you are currently using? The Civic screen shows all the possible civics, but does not tell you which one is currently being used. I really would appreciate any help I can get, Ajax

You get access to the resource (as long as you have the required tech), so you can use it to build units or get extra happy or healthy people, but you don't get the full tile yield - it's generally better to build off resources, although they are unpillagable under a city, which can help a lot in raging barbs or always war games.
The currently active civic in each column is definitely highlighted - if it's not clear to you, the ones which don't change the text at the bottom of the screen when you mouseover them are your current ones (for instance, mousing over a current civic will not change the number of turns of revolution from 0 to 1. This isn't a very reliable method if you've already clicked to change a civic whilst in the civics screen though).

There's no such thing as a stupid question.
1. No. You do get the "full civ" benefit of the resource; for example, cows contribute +1 to all your cities, so you do get that, and you can also trade the resource, but you do not get the full benefits for the city itself. Other effects are that the resource is available to your civ immediately (provided you have the required tech), and it makes the resource pillage-proof. It rarely makes sense to found a city on top of a food resource; however, it can often make sense to found a city on top of other resources. I've founded cities on top of ivory and various calendar resources, for example. Generally, you should avoid founding on any resource that has significant output once improved (such as food, gold, iron, copper), but consider founding on top of "weak" resources such as ivory, incense, and so on. 2. Sure it does! Check the screen shot below (from Vanilla Civ IV): ![]() The selected civics have a yellow highlight in the top half of the screen, and their names and particulars are displayed in the bottom half. Now if you select a new civic, as I did in the screenshot above, they will display this way; you can simply click on Cancel to undo your changes without going into a revolution, and the screen will change back to showing you your current civics, as it did when you first opened it.

Buuuuuttttt.....
Of the 5 selected Civics, which one is currently being utilized? It seems impossible to tell in this screen which one you are currently using....
Is there no where on any screen that displays the current civic you civilization in under? BTW - thanks for your replies on the resource question. If I build a City on top of a resource, I get the benefit of the resource......just not the full benefit I would receive if it was an adjacent tile with the "pasture" improvement and so on....

They are all being utilized in conjunction Capt Ajax. All selected civics are used at the same time.

When you first open the Civics screen, the current civics will be listed. If you select another but then click "Cancel" rather than "Revolution", your current civics will be listed.
As for founding a city on a resource, the way I think of it is that you get the benefit of the resource for your civilization, but not for the city itself.

It might help to think of your Civics "package" consisting of 5 systems: Government, Legal, Labor, Economy, and Religion. From the beginning of the game you are concurrently running one of five possible civics in each system. There are 3,125 possible combinations of Civics.

HOLY COW MAN!
WOW..........Daaaaaaa......I really had no idea that all 5 civics were in play at one time? Man do I feel stupid OK, I was under the inpression that you selected only 1 civic from the 5 catagories to run your whole civilization. Now I see how it makes since to have a different atribute for each catagory of government all come together to create one civic SYSTEM As far as building a city on a cow......too bad that the city tile does not automaticly upgrade the cow with a pasture once that tech has been reached. That would seem fair because I know the City tile gains other benefits (like commerse) as the game progresses.
