Fix for XP "black-out" problem

I have Windows XP with a NVidia TNT2 video card and, of course, experienced the XP problem where I would see the opening movie clip, then the screen would go black.
I downloaded and installed the CIV3 ver. 1.17f patch and added the following lines in my "Civilization3.ini" file:

Keepres=1
Video Mode=1024
Refresh=60

Now the game works fine. I think that all I needed to add to the ini file was the "Redresh=60" line, but I'm not going to mess with it now that it works.

I HAVE NOT installed NVidia's XP video driver. Apparantly it is not needed to run CIV3, but it might be needed with video cards other than my TNT2.

Thanks to all for the help that I got from this forum.

Try it and see? It's not exactly a gargantuan task.
