Rik makes the map, and he decides everything (70% pangaea/80% continent/etc., size, temperature, climate, and age).

Rik Made - Parameters Team-Decided (Option #2)
Rik makes the map but the teams decide 70% pangaea/80% continent/etc., size, temperature, climate, and age.

Non-Rik Made - Completely Random (Option #3)
Ginger or myself start up a new PBEM and pick random for everything (70% pangaea/80% continent/etc., size, temperature, climate, and age).

Non-Rik Made - Parameters Team-Decided ((Option #4)
Ginger or myself start up a new PBEM and pick everything (70% pangaea/80% continent/etc., size, temperature, climate, and age) according to the teams' will.

We will know the map specifications if option 2 or 4 are chosen. Otherwise we (and everyone else) will be completely in the dark other than there is a map, with 4 other teams on it trying to kill everyone else.

If you mean we shouldn't choose Portugal, I definately agree since they really, really, really suck. OTOH, I think that if we dont know what the map is like, expansionist or seafaring will give us a very good idea about the land type. The top seafaring and expansionist candidates i would suggest would be Arabs, Russia, Byzantines, Netherlands and Carthage.
