Odeon = Coliseum, Pavilion = Theatre? I dunno...
Can anyone explain why the odeon replaces the coliseum and the pavilion the theatre in Warlords? After all the odeon is a theatre, and ancient Greeks were famous dramatists. I understand the Chinese of antiquity were quite the playwrights themselves but their pavilion structure seems to be more of an accomplishment in architecture and construction. It doesn't seem to be something that was meant for entertainment exclusively.

A Salon definitelly isn't an Observatory either
![]() I'm guessing the UB's have been chosen as: - no two UB's replacing the same building (each UB replaces a different building) - the UB provides benefit similar to the building it replaces, even if it's not "cultural version of the building" - <insert some mumbling about how the age at which the ub is available suits the civ - not that I agree with that many choices> In case of Odeon I guess the idea was that it's main purpose is to provide happiness (colosseum: +1 and more per culture slider), with additional benefit of providing culture. OTOH, Pavillion was set up as primarly cultural building (which does provide happiness as theater does), just with higher cultural value (and a multiplier at that - most buildings available to all cities are adders).

The Coliseum should not be the UB of Rome. Rome has the Roman Forum where Rome did all it's market work and stuff. esides in modern times, we can all think of a Coliseum as a stadium

All good points. I'm just thinking that they should be switched around: Chinese Pavilion should replace Coliseum available with Construction and Greek Odeon = Theatre, available with Drama.

The Roman Forum was quite important to daily life, and it has been around a lot longer than the Coliseum. I think what Firaxis did for the Forum was a very good idea... Like the Senate, the Forum was central to life in Rome.
Now, I can't seem to remember (and I can't find the book), but does the Odeon also give +1 Happiness right away, or is it +2?

About Colosseum, I think it should be a great wonder. Or Circus Maximus could be that.

I always thought the UB should be an additional building rather than a replacement. Would certainly solve some of the differentiation issues
