I like yours better CB than mine, execpt for the Formal since that will change, and we don't want for outsiders to know the namesake of our great empire.

I would change it to simply FREE.

CB, I like yours and I think we should use FREEbies as our adjective. Also, for the info with Free in it I think we should capatilize Free into FREE.

"Liberty Leading the People"?

Don't know what the rules are regarding the bare-breasted personification of liberty? (in my mind it's art and I don't see how someone could have a problem with it).

Some quick thoughts on aluka's image.

1) Black box not needed. The painting is not porn.

2) The lady in question holding the French Flag (the Tricolor)

3) The image is dramatic and forceful.

4) 'FREE' is very nicely done and blends well with the image.

Overall, I like the idea and the execution, but I'm not sure if this is the best background image.

Even worse, I don't have another background image in mind. (One of my pet peeves is someone complaining without trying to find a solution.)

What if we changed the colors on the flag to match Sumeria's colors?

What does the image look like without the black box?

I agree with your thoughts. However, I think the FREE blocks out the dead guys laying on the ground. I like the picture and what it symbolizes but we should work on it. I would do what CB said, but either shrink FREE or move it down. I'd move it down on the picture, if it is shrunk it loses effect.

Ok I changed it a little after taking your comments into consideration. I tried putting in the Standard of Ur as the flag but I wasn't able to get it quite right. If you like the idea of using it I think I may just be able to pull it off. If anyone has another idea for a background image either post a link here or make your own graphic. If you want the photoshop files of what I've been working on just tell me and I'll provide them (I'm not very proficient with it).

edit: just realised I need to centre the writing, it's a little far to the right at the moment.

You're right, the Standard of Ur would not work. It is far too busy.

But....

What if we took the three main colors from the Standard of Ur and used them on the tricolor? Suitably muted, of course, to blend with the overall image.

It looks like the main colors of the Standard of Ur are a rather bright blue, dark red and gold.

Other ideas
My first thought of a team graphic was the flag of the Duchy of Grand Fenwick, from the movie 'The Mouse That Roared'. To me, the 'Federal Republic of the Evaacck Empire' has a pompous, medieval sound to it. So I thought of heraldic images of that time.

Team Image Idea 1

I thought we might be able to change the words from 'Yay' and 'Nay' to 'Team' and 'FREE'.

When aluka mentioned "Liberty Leading the People" I thought of Mel Gibson in The Patriot.

Good picture, but seemed a bit hard to modify for our uses.

Team Image Idea 3

Awesome photo, sacred to the US Marine Corps, but maybe a bit heavy for what we want.

Anyway, these were my ideas, but they are only starting points.

I think aluka's idea is better than any of mine.

How about we go with the double headed eagle in the centre of a three banded flag? We could make a seperate team graphic and team flag. I like your idea of replacing the aye and nay with Team and FREE.

Sounds good. I like the idea of the two headed eagle, but this was the best graphic I found of it. Good idea, bad image. Not sure why I don't like the image. Could be it is too red or has too much detail (too busy). I'm not much help on that, sorry.

I've got an Adobe Photo-something at home and tried to modify the colors on the first image. It didn't work. What I have is a freebie that came with some bundled software and it is not up to the task. It took almost all the of the dark blue of the flag and replaced it with one color. Not good; the change removed all of the detail of that part of the flag.

I think the spacing of Team FREE is fine in your image.

I don't know if you need this or not, but Worth 1000 has a bunch of tutorials on how to use Photoshop. The link is here. They also have some really cool contests.
