Installing Civ 3 Twice?
Is it possible to install Civ 3 twice on the same computer?
I play civ 3 with patch 1.16f. I encounter a LOT less crashing when I use 1.16 as opposed to 1.17. However, my problem is with downloading zipped-save games from CFC forums. I cannot view them as I am using 1.16. I have a partitioned HD and I now run civ 3 on drive d if thats any help.

I don't see any reason why it wouldn't work...

My problem in re-installing it is when I try to re-install it, it wants to "remove components". The only options are Yes and Cancel. I het cancel because I don't want the install on drive d to be removed. But this boots me out of the instal process.
![]() PS Thanks for the quick reply

Seems to want to. I haven't taken it beyond the "Remove Companents" question other than cancel.

What I do "Exactly" is this.
1 Exit CD from CD Rom drive and then put it back in. 2 Auto run begins 3 Comes up with the screen that gives you the options to Register, Uninstall, Play Civ 3, Re install or exit. 4 I have chosen to Re-install because I dont want to uninstall. 5 A couple of seconds later it asks if I want to "Remove previously installed components." The only options are Yes or Cancel. I have choosen cancel as I don't want it to remove the components. 6 I then get booted out and that is that. ![]() I'm not sure what else to do unless I try and choose Yes to remove components. Is there a way to mask the previous install?

try accessing the direct install program by browsing the CD (look in D
then it shouldn't know that civ3 is already installed and thus shouldn't ask you if it should overwrite the files.

I've now tried the 5 application file on the CD. It still wants to remove previous installation files.
![]() What did you mean by d ![]() Would there be another way to mask the previous install? Or am I just not starting up the right applications?

oops it was D:) but smilies were enabled...hmmm, I'm not sure what to do. Just browsing round the CD and trying out the different setup programs is all I can think of. I'll try it myself later when I get onto the computer where I've got civ3 installed.

The reason it's not letting you install it again is because no matter what partition you install it on, there will be stuff in the registry. So right when you run the install program, it searches the registry and finds that Civ3 is installed already, regardless of what partition you installed it on. The only way I could see to get around this is if you had a dual boot system (two operating systems), but that stuff is pretty complicated.
