CASINO

I found this nice cowboy in Sid Meier's Railroads - i 'borrowed' it I've combined it with other building from game. I've edited it and made 5 buttons to choose from. (2 textures 256x256 and 1 texture 32x256, 576 triangles model)

Arg! Another thing to add! ;)

The sign looks really great.

But I wonder about the effect of vegas and the casinos: They bring a lot of CA$H but they also lowers the moral somehow:confused:

Hehe not if you use save/load ability ;) - I always cheated (Since Fallout 1 to GTA san Andreas) incasinos in games this way ;)

I thought rather about slightly incresing happiness +1 - if you win - you're happy, if you loose you still have hope next time it will be ok :) and some bonus to cash (+20% gold?) (all that taxes and draining money from wallets :)) but i see your point it could give also - 1 happiness but bigger cash bonus

I take it none of you have been to Las Vegas

I detect an anit-gambling opinion in your coments but in truth gambling is a recreational activity considered quite enjoyable by most cultures. On top of that Vegas is also the #3 entertainment Meca for the US (after NY and LA). Vegas attracts tourists and conventions from across the world. The Wonder should act as a happyness booster, probably +2 for all Cities. Gambling isn't a productive activity so I'd drop any gold Bonus, instead give a modest Culture bonus or a trade route bonus to reflect tourism.

What about reducing maintenance costs for number of cities ( -50% ) and + 2 Happiness in that particular city ; Maybe a + 10 % Culture to all cities also.

First effect for money attractivity
Second following Impaler partially
Third for culture side effect on happiness

Good Stuff.

As far as its "effect" I cant see how a -maintenance effect would make sense. If anything a casino would increase maintenance (the effects of having more people congested in 1 location put a strain on the local infastructure as well as some things we take for granted, like running water, electricity, sewer systems, etc... If anything more maintenance just to keep such a mecca up and running.

The most logical would be happiness because of the entertainment associated with it. and some kind of gold/trade route because of the tourism and subsequent taxes.

For what its worth, A new Specialist can be created (Entertainer) that gives +1 Happiness (much like TheLopez's Doctor gives +1 Health). a casino could also supply a free entertainer or 2.

I am using this (the Casino) as a UB for Cuba. I was just wondering what everyone's thoughts are on which building it should replace? I was thinking the following possible buildings;

1) Colosseum - simple go ahead happiness building, yet it appears too early for my tastes.

2) Theater - Again, I beileve it appears too early in the game, however I wanted the building to effect culture.

3) Bank - Because it deals with money, although I agree with Impaler in that it doesn't actually produce money (well for most people at least).

4) Broadcast Tower - Mainly due to its era, I am thinking that with radio there would be more advertising for a casino, although I could be wrong about that.

Any other ideas would be appreciated. I was thinking giving it a culture and trade route bonus. And maybe the option of two artist specialists perhaps. Any thoughts/ideas?

EDIT: Maybe a free spy, everyone knows spies are drawn to Casinos... at least in the movies.
