Situation: Windows XP Professional and the Civ 3 CD install work fine, as soon as I down load the Civ v1.17f patch Civ 3 goes to hell in a hand basket. Sometimes it will not load at all, other times (after reinstalling it) it shifts everything to the left (take the left 40% of your screen and put it on the right side, fun. Any ideas on how to correct this problem or what's going on?

I run Windows XP as well but don't have this problem... the only problem I have with XP and Civ III is the refreshrate that's not supported by my monitor, but I fixed that by putting "refresh=60" in the ini file...
What you might want to try is to run Civ III in Win98 compatability mode, right click the Civ III icon on your desktop (or the civilization 3.exe file in explorer) and go to Properties... in properties select the compatable tab and check the Win98 compatibility box. Click ok and run the game again... i hope this solves your problem, else try the refresh line, it might be a problem with the monitor refresh rate as well... -Dimy77 |

I did try running Civ 3 in Win98 compatability mode, unfortunately this did not work either. I will try the refresh rate, but I honestly do not think this is the issue, since the program will work fine with the CD intallation, but maybe. Thanks for the suggestion.

Just to let everyone know, I sent this question to Infogrames Technical support, and found the problem is with the Civilization3.exe file. You will need to have them e-mail you a new .exe file, titled 1.21Civ3SafeDisk.zip, in order to solve this problem. What I was told is there is an issue with the copy write protection. This problem holds true with the 1.21 patch as well.
