So...I was rolling starts to find a nice one for me to build an empire with and I stumbled apon this beauty.
Now, looking at this start position, I immediately told myself, "self, don't move a mucle". I noticed that this was a perfect Settler Factory position, but then I had the question, how do I build a settler factory? I have three cows + FP Wheat, yet I don't know how to make a settler factory out of them. So, can anyone tell me how to turn this beautiful start location into a settler factory? ![]() Save is included: http://forums.civfanatics.com/upload...ks_4000_BC.SAV.

One settler factory? Mine all three cows, ignore the wheat, and mine one of the grasslands.
Two? Mine two cows and irrigate one. One of the mined cows has to be the one west of Athens, and let your second city work it along with the wheat. Then mine pretty much all the grasslands.

You can make 3 out of that, I think. Your 3rd city has to go out to the plains and use the fp wheat, and you may need to get lucky with some BG under forest. The biggest thing is getting 5 food - 5 food, for greece, under despotism, is irrigate cow + mined cow, or irrigated cow + irrigated FP, or irrigated FP wheat.
The other question would be if you can get enough shields for 3 settler factories. And, finally, how big a world do you have? is having 3 factories (actually, probably 2 setter and 1 worker factory) useful? On a tiny map, probably not. On a huge map, then you may end up wanting more

http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=100256 will explain the process. You have sufficient surplus food for 3 factories without taking into account the flood plains. Your problem is likely to be the shields.
You could however make some wild stuff out of that. How about a 4 turn settler factory without a granary - you need 8 surplus food (10 total) and 8 shields. Irrigate all your food bonuses mine 1 grass and grow to size 5. at size 5 work all the food bonuses and a forest, same on next turn - you will grow (working an extra forest) switch one of the forests to the mined grass. in 2 more turns you will have the settler.

A settler without a granary...reminds me of a time when I scoff at a start with two wheat on fp, with some more fp and BGs.
