First of, I'm running CivIv on 256MB of Ram on winxp, though the mininmum requirements told me this ought to be 512MB Ram on winxp.
I have some difficulties with huge maps etc... after a while, because the game starts to run really slow. I was wondering if it would help if I would either a) start on smaller map with eg. 18 players, or b) start on a huge map with eg. 5 players. Has anyone with a slow PC tried this or can anyone with a lot of computerknowledge help me out with this one? Thx in advance...

I'm sorry but there is absolutely no way you can hope to run large or even STANDARD maps with any amount of acceptable performance on 256MB RAM. 256MB RAM is the bare minimum just to run XP. If you cannot afford more RAM I would suggest downgrading to Windows 2000 because it uses less system memory than XP. |

That is strange: I can play huge 18 civs in late game using a more-than-one-year-old laptop.
Sure, turn ends take a bit of time, and I have to have lots of virtual memory, but it works. |

![]() Also, good job being modest. I can run Huge/18 Civs up until they start getting 10/15 cities each. Then again, I only have 512MB of RAM. And a horrid processor.

To clarify, I was responding to iceman, who claimed to have one of the best systems on the board and can't run large games.
My more-than-one-year-old laptop is a decent system for it's day: 1 GB ram, 128MB card+128MB system graphics card, etc. |

I had a gig or RAM on my last comp, and it couldn't play anything above a small map without a jerk-o-rama going on. I just don't see how you are able to play with just 256MBs
