After i upgraded to v. 1.21, i was able to play the game a couple of times, then, when i want to start the game, i double click, the computer buzzes for awhile, then nothing more happens.
Has this happened to anyone else?? |

I'd just play without the patch but it kinda prevents me from creating an updated version of Marla's map!

I love this game, only it seems that someone at Firaxis screwed something up this time around!

After installing 1.21f, every time I try to play the game causes a system reboot, just before the opening movie.
I'm running on XP Home, 256 M, Athlon 1.5, NVidia Geforce MX200 and Via on board sound. Previous patches worked just fine. On my laptop which is running Win98 everything seems to work fine... but its too small to run sound or animations.

I HAVE DISCOVERED THE PROBLEM!!!
IT IS THE SCRIPT.TXT FILE THAT IS PROVIDED WITH 1.21f. RENAME THE 1.21f SCRIPT.TXT FILE TO SCRIPT2.TXT, SCRIPTBACKUP.TXT OR WHATEVER YOU DESIRE AND THEN DOWNLOAD THIS SCRIPT.TXT FILE INTO YOUR CIV3\TEXT DIRECTORY. THE GAME WILL WORK PERFECTLY THEN. BTW: This is simply the original game's script.txt file Disclaimer: I do not accept any responsibility for any problems this may cause on your system.

I've been experiencing the exact same problem! I'll do what has been suggested above.
Thanx

Perhaps this will help. I have had all types of problems.
I could do the setup for the game, selecting the civ and terrain, but when I started the game it would frequently drop to the decktop, or end in a blue screen. Sometimes I could play a dozen turn or so and then get a blue screen. I tried everything repeatedly. Deleting and reloading the game. Updating sound and video drivers. I even formated my HD several times. I no longer have these problems. What I was failing to do was delete my old Nvidia drivers before updating. Even in the format failed because I was usinfg an older driver then updating it. It seems that us Nvidia users have been spoiled. The old drivers would install over the others without complaint. The key step is going to the "add/delete programs" in "control panel" located in "my computer". Find the Nvidia display drivers highlight and delete. Then install the new drivers. Worked for me. |

Same here
What happens with me is I start the game (or try to) and when the screen pops up (not the game but the intro) I wait and after a while it says "please insert the Civilization 3 cd and click ok then restart the application" or something like that. I have reinstalled many many times but nothing works! I even tried running it on 1.7 instead of 1.2 and it still fails to provide me with the civing pleasure I used to have! It seemed as though I was playing Marla's Map when it happened
thanks in advance, Grawss
