Ummmm, both?

Hey, if you don't like war, those immortals make the AI somewhat more hesitant to attack. If you do, they provide a much greater incentive than usual.

I think more deadly weapon, as it is arguably the most powerful AA unit. Get a bunch of Immortals and rampage is a favorite tactic even for reluctant war-mongers. And the Persian traits help amplify the lead you can get, furthering your victory of any kind.

Immortals get slaughtered by Mounted Warriors.
Its hard to beat the extra movement point.

Depends on whether they are being wielded by a human or an AI. I find that movement points are nice, to be sure, but they need to be used properly. The AI often escorts its high movement units with slow defensive units, damaging their ability to move quickly. Against you....I'd want MI's against your MW's...and I'd still probably lose...

Horses are very powerful indeed with the extra movement. The Immortal is a killer as well especially if the enemy is close. My vote is for Both.

Deadly weapon. What's the point of having Immortals if you aren't going to use them to smack around the AI.

Against the AI, immortals are just a big grinding machine. THe extra movement point of the horsemen only carry them to a quicker death. Ive seen it all happen in the Fall of the Roman Empire Conquest
(Persia vs Greece )

As already stated- both. Then again you can bring peace through the use of your deadly weapons.

Immortals will bring peace. We cannot allow an Immortal gap.

I say, if it's designed for peace, it would have an attack of 0 or 1.

Any powerful weapon can be wielded in war or brandished as a deterrent for peace, same as in real life. If the "war only" faction was right, the Cold War would never have happened. Korea would have been the first (and last) nuclear war ever fought by mankind.

Oh! Remember that the AI is human too as it was programmed by a human and humans are incapable of not thinking like humans.

True. However the programming can never be perfect. There are flaws with the AI.

Persian Immortals, you say? They're the deadly weapon available against those who would stand against the Bringer of Eternal Peace (you)!

Of course they're not the only ones, but that's another thing

It is important to war with your horsemen pretty early on, from my experience. You don't want to face your enemy when they have multiple spears fortified in a city. Get to them when they have about 4 or 5 towns and only a few spears and the horses work pretty well.

I really don't care for the Immortals all that much.

Sometimes the situation and terrain calls for swords-class units rather than fast units, though. Horses are no better than archers when you need to slog through jungle.

They are, they have 50% retreat, archers do not.

I would agree with this in principle. In practice, such situations don't occur a lot.
