A bit confused....research points
I have began a game at Prince level, and noticed a strange thing, on the first turns since i founded my capital i noticed that my city produces 10 research point/turn but when i hover mouse over the technology, i have noticed that 12 research points/turn are produced by my civ.
Considering that i have set research to 100%, there is no improvement which enhance research and my city produces 10 commerce which are converted in 10 research points where i got these 2 extras research points? I'm now really confused because i play civ4 since a lot of time but don't remember any rule which gives me more research points than what my city/cities produces; and at the beginning i don't even have building or civics which enhance research so math is easy. |

Weird... all I can guess is that this is a discount related to the fact, that you are researching a technology which is already known to some other civs.

i guess it's rounding. your city produces 10.x beakers per turn and this sums up till it swaps over. or has it been a constant +12 for several turns?

no, what is strange is that changing tile with less commerce even if i get a total research production of 9 rp/turn my total research per turn is 11.So i get some free research points in any case.i really can't remember any rule or feature where these beakers could come from.

Just which tech are you researching ? There is a curious "feature" which gives you extra research if you have extra optional techs (e.g. both Fishing and Agriculture when researching Pottery), as well as extra research if other civs that you have met already have the one you're doing.
Compare, for example, Astronomy and Military Tradition. They cost the same number of flasks, but Mil. Trad. has many more "options" leading to it than does Astronomy: the result is that usually it takes one more turn for Astronomy than for Mil. Trad. |

open your city, and hover over the science slider. There should be explanations where those beakers come from

Yeah what bushface said + You allways get ATLEAST 1 beaker. This is the so called "ether" beaker, you get this one for free allways. Most probably to get around the problem of "deviding by zero" if you have the research set to 0%

Yeah Bushface is right, i researched some techs a lot faster because i had the previous tech required, but in any case it doesn't explain a thing.
Playing as Saladin now i have Mysticism and Wheel for free while Agriculture costs 297 beakers on Prince, my city commerce is 9 which means 9 beakers with research slider at 100%, (pressing f1 or in city screen 9 is my total civ beakers/turn). Why i'm researching Agriculture in 30 turns if the beakers required are 297 and i have 9 beakers/turn, i get a free beaker/turn which comes from nowhere considering that Agriculture has no prerequired tech. |
