What The Crap???

Tell me how this makes any sense, because to me it's backwards:
I can download a 40 minute video file from the web in about 15 minutes, but it takes about 50 minutes to transfer THAT SAME video file from one computer to another on my home network??? Makes no sense. Transferring a file 3 feet on my LAN (Local Area Network) takes about 4 to 5 times as long as transferring it from a computer that's God knows how far away.

Can any computer wizzes tell me how to transfer files on my computer network faster, because there has to be a way. The theoretical top speed on my network card is 100 Mbit/s, and the top speed on my internet (ISP) is 2 Mbit/s. So I know the local area network has to be faster.

Thank you, I worked long and hard on the title

Anyways, someone must have a clue, or else I'll be forced to figure it out myself.

The computer on the left is slowing down the transfer process. Lefties are lazy.

Could be a firewall, antivirus, horribly fragmented HDD, lots of things. Very hard to diagnose without sitting in front of the box(es) in question. But it's almost definetly an issue with one of the PCs... though it might be an extremely crappy router.

Most connections have slower upload than download e.g. my 1mb internet connection is 1mb down and 128k up

None of those things would explain why I can download from the internet really fast, but cannot transfer on my own LAN very fast. Because I can download from the internet fast from both computers, which are hooked up to the same hub, leading to the router. My description rules out HDD problems, firewall; and likelyhood of it being a virus is pretty slim. I'm pretty sure I don't have a virus.

I'm not uploading the file through the internet, but through my LAN, so the upload limit from my ISP does not apply.

Your LAN may be the same if it's going through the same router.

Set up an FTP server on one of the machines and connect using local IP.

That's a lot of effort to transfer oone file (easier to just buy a flash drive)
