How tech costs are affect by researching thier prerequisites?

I'm just wondering how much Tech cost are affected by it. For instance I have Priesthood so I could research Animal Husbandry or Pottery affecting how many turns it would take to research Writing. Also do other things not in the tree affect it, i.e. mysticism?

p.s. If this was asked already, sorry.

For example, to research pottery you need the wheel.
and one of the two ( fishing and agr ).
If you have both them, you get a 20% discount.

For writing, if you have 1 out of 3 prequesites. no discount
2 out of 3. 20% discount
3 out of 3. 4O % discount.
the prequisites being pottery, Priest and AH.

Actually, here's how pottery works.

Cost: 80 beakers

If you have Fishing you can research it for 67 beakers. 67 * 120% = 80.
If you have Fishing + Agriculture you can research it for 58 beakers. 58 * 140% = 80.

Ok !
I see the difference.
By the way do you know how knowing civilzation with the researched tech affect your research speed ?

Is it like a +10% bonus per civ ?

+4% per civ on a standard map. It drops to less than 2% per civ on a huge map. (The max bonus is always +30%.)

When did this become the case? I remember before Warlords you could utilize the prerequisite-research boost to overflow onto your next tech choice.

Specificially, when you were 1 turn from finishing, you'd lower your research until it would take two turns. This would put you as close to finishing the tech as possible without actually completing it. Then the next turn you'd put your slider at 100% to have the most overflow possible onto the next tech.

Obviously such a micromanagement tactic only works if your base beakers are being increased and not if just the cost of the tech is being reduced.

This article explains in details the math behind tech research, probably more detailed than you really need.
