(Playing Pirates) Will I run into trouble if...

...I set every unit as a Pirate (hide nationality), and I mean every unit. I just did it (did not play yet), but I wonder if anybody ever try.

I wanna know if the game gonna do any crazy or unexpected things before I start the game, so I have to ask the pros here.

The AI will able to attack any city he wants without declaring war but the human wont be able to do the same.

If that is all, that would be ok, it would be like a challenged.

But one AI can attack the other AI too right?

Yes when you have hidden nationality land units the AI attacks everyone without declaring war. The human hidden nationality units cant attack a city without declaring war though.

I just start it to play, and I couldn't believe what happen. I try to attack an scout, and did not kill or capture it, it just stayed in the same square.

Thats not fun. I guess it cannot be all pirates .

Guess what?

I was able to attack when I try to attack a city (no need to declare war, as I didn't even know which civ I was attacking), and I did not only did that but I capture it as well. I'm not able to meet any civs, because they are all Pirates, but I can take then out.

OK......let me ammend my answer it only works that way if there are still regular units also. I added a hidden nationality land unit instead of making all units hidden nationality.

For all practical purposes it's like every civ being in locked war with all the others. It should "work" though, if you just want to be able to fight everyone.

But when you try to attack the unit, that is not in the cities border the unit just stay in the same square. I only got to attack a unit, when being into their city border.

The AI also know who attack then, and come to vengeance. Playing like this you (and I guess the AI) have to research on your own, because even know you are in the AI's borders, you don't get to meet then.

What is cool, is that everything is a surprise, you don't know who is building wonders, you don't know how strong is your military compare to the other civs, you don't know how well in points you are doing. To bad I have Diplomacy disable, I wonder how the vote would be if know one knew no one.

If you try to attack a HN unit with no defense (worker, scout, etc) it will just remain there underneath your unit.
The AI attacks everyone with a vengeance, because it treats all HN units as barbarians. Don't take it personally.
You should still be able to engage in diplomacy when you discover a foreign city. It should display the owner, even if there is a HN unit defending it. Doesn't the "D" button on the bottom right interface show up after you locate foreign cities?

I went right in front of their unit, they all are like barbarians, (white) even know the borders are in the default civ colors, I try to contact then but is like a barbarian is into their city. I cannot contact none of then.

Did you guys check the screen cap? That is no D in there. I know what you talking about, but it doesn't work. And I know the short cut key as well, I try it didn't work.

I even try to use the start on their capital later, but it doesn't work. I cannot meet anyone, but I like this way, as like I say everything is a surprise.

Thank you Clayton, but this is just an experiment that I'm trying, a fill weeks ago
I decide it I want to play with the maximum civs, then I did, a fill months before I felt like playing with strong navy power, so I made a impassible terrain so the only way to conquer other civs city would be by ship, and amphibians power and yesterday I decide it to play as everyone as a Pirate.

I tough someone have already try, but it seems they didn't as they think I can do things that I cannot. I guess I found something new in CIV.

How about multiplying all units' stats by 2, and then giving all units with 0 Defense 1 defense?

Here is a screen shot, as I'm into the AI territory.

Notice that the AI territory is in their default colour, but the AI unit in the city, is in white, just like an Barbarian. Also notice that there is no D in the right corner, which means you cannot contact the AI.

If I right click in the AI unit, it just say regular worrier, it doesn't say which civ that unit belongs too.

I only find out which unit that one of the AI was from, when I destroy their civ, (as I did to the French).

for the record, tho I think the subject has been changed...

If ALL units in the game are HN, the D function doesnt work, because you contact a civ for the first time, by identifying its units...since you never know whose units they are, you never "contact" anyone...

second...if you take away the "Capture" function from HN units, and flag explore...the AI will still use them to attack...the settings I used were 2att 2 def 2 movement...10 shields more than a swordsman...the AI didnt use ALOT of them, but I made them "Mercenaries" and gave them "Enslave" which created another "Mercenary" (Work for us or we'll kill you?)
