Land transports

I´ve never used them, so here I go:
  1. Is there any gfx for an army truck (or any kind of truck, I need a timber/cattle-truck also)?
  2. Can I load land tranports onto ship transports?
  3. Can I load army-type units onto land transports?
  4. can I load a transport (armed, of course, like an SW MTT) onto an army?
  5. (Added) can I move wheeled units on transports across mountains/jungle etc. that don´t admit wheeled units?
Thanks in advance.

I know, but it could be fun for playing WWII between human players, ferrying troops across swamps or blasting a path clear with artillery and then barreling through with a couple of trucks witk assault infantry.
Now that I think of it, MTTs, AT-ATs, and other SW stuff are also transports.

Rule of thumb: no transport (be it air, sea, or land) can carry another transport unit.

Does transports include armies, or are they a separate category?

Armies are a special case IIRC - in the basic game armies can load into transports. An army of three units would need a transport with four free spaces for it to load.

Thanks. Gotta read it sometime later. Nw, gotta study (I have a good chance of failing tomorrow´s exam, but at least, it will be easier to average out with other marks a 5 than a 1) :shakehead:

I agree with Takises. But I have a variant on the same idea. In stead of trucks I am interested in trains. You all probably agree with me that railroads make the game unrealistic. It is not right that I can move a stack of units from Paris to Vladivostok in one turn!!! So I came up with the idea of making trains. First you make moving on railroads take moments points, then you can tag a "train" unit so it can only move on railroads and give it a lot of movement points, make it so that you can load other land units into it, and you have a Train. It should work but since I suck at actually using the Editor I have been unable to try it out.

Yes, that´s another option, but you could use trucks for transporting infantry in some scenario where roads and trains are not buildable, they´re just there from the beginning, so, if you destroy them , you´ll have to mechanize your infantry.
I´ve thought of another idea: you make artillery (at least, ancient, like catapults, scorpions, etc) inmobile and you build "wagon" units to carry them. That could work fr a strictly ancient scenario.
Even better: you could use the Greek Fire (TAM; RFRE; etc.) and transport it to battle. I´m not sure the AI would use it, though.

Actually I dont agree with that. What is unrealistic about a train making it from Vladivostok to Paris in one year? Unless you change the base unit of time, but even then 1 month or 1 week to travel that distance isnt unrealistic either.

What I really meant is that you can move all your units in to enemy territory as soon as you declare war, no matter how far away they are on the map. This really messes up the realism of the game.

But, if you declare war on somewhere in real life and have the army geared for war already, moving them across the world is easy done. Within one year you can, in reality, move across a continent and invade somewhere.

The problem with land transports is the AI will not use them. Every other arguement about why they should or should not be made is pointless.

I personally wish railroads were a multiplier of roads not instant movement. but, since that is not possible, the only choice is use them as is or disable them. I am very tempted to disable them since I think it is game unbalancing. But, using a land based transport to replace the train is not workable.

On fixed maps, there is a third choice: Interrupt them.

That´s right, you can make a train, as you say, from Paris to Vladivostok, but to move from Vladivostok to anywhere else you´ll have a good old-fashioned road!
