Great Suggestions

Civ 4


Some ideas in order to improve civilization 4

1-in the classical age ,civilizations like the romans and greeks were able to discover more sophisticated forms of governments,like the roman republic and the athenian democracy,in my opinion,there should be two national wonders(discovered on the classical period of the game) to solve this issue:

A) assembly (ekklesia) - based on the athenian democracy,it would able Universal Suffrage

B) Senate- based on the roman republic,it would able representation


2)in the medieval ages,there should be a technology that would be discovered before gunpowder, called "alchemy",that would let the player build the new unit called "medieval canon".
im sayn this because i noticed that in medieval ages everyone easily discovers gunpowder,making castles and walls useless.
castles and walls should provide little defense defense against gunpowder units (castles oferring 10% of city protection and walls 5%,for example)

3)there should be a way to fight inflation.
please note that inflation(in real life) can be reduced with an increase in industrial production(hammers in civ 4)

4)There is a lack of one civic:the asiatic mode of production(ancient civic),that would make the workers build farms 25%faster(not all ancient civilization were based on slavery,like the ancient persians).

The asiatic mode of production. initially used to explain pre-slave and pre-feudal large earthwork constructions in China, India, the Euphrates and Nile river valleys .The asiatic mode of production is said to be the initial form of class society, where a small group extracts social surplus through violence aimed at settled or unsettled band communities within a domain. Exploited labour is extracted as forced corvee labour during a slack period of the year (allowing for monumental construction such as the pyramids, ziggurats, ancient Indian communal baths or the Chinese Great Wall). Exploited labour is also extracted in the form of goods directly seized from the exploited communities. The primary property form of this mode is the direct religious possession of communities (villages, bands, hamlets) and all those within them. The ruling class of this society is generally a semi-theocratic aristocracy which claims to be the incarnation of gods on earth. The forces of production associated with this society include basic agricultural techniques, massive construction and storage of goods for social benefit (grainaries).

Its known that in civ 4 maybe its impossible to put another civics,soits my sugestion to put this 25% faster building of farms in tribalism

in order to preserve its advantages ,the civic slavery would have these
effects:

-Can sacrifice population to finish production in a city
-can build mines 50% faster (and maybe 25% faster building of roads as well)

5)religions must be more balanced,because religions discovered on a later period have clearly disadvantages in comparison with older ones.

6)improve the looks of the christian buildings(that are very ugly in comparison with jewish and muslin ones).
it would be very cool if the christian churches had different looks depending of the civilization (spanish churches with catholic design and russian with orthodox)

7)there should be a few modern time barbarians,they would be like "criminals"(instead of barbarians)

8)like the life expectancy index(in demography),there should be a literate index,based on the country science

9)there isnt a crime concept base in civilization

10)it would be good if civ4 had some pirates on the sea(they would be able to attack cities as well)

11)like civ 2,it would be great if the player could get a barbarian leader and exhange him for money

12)some civics must be changed:

I was reading civilopedia and i have noticed that most of the civics do not match the civilopedia description and are very simple.In real life autoritarian governments,for example,used to increase the control of the state over the economy,increasing the industrial production (hammers).
Besides that,most of the civilization civics are unbalanced.

Politics:

Despotism:
*hammers increase in 5%

hereditary rule
1 happiness per military unit stationed in the city;
build castles and religious buildings 25%faster

Police state:
military units are made 25% faster
+ 10% from hammers
-25% of war weariness
1 negative happiness per city

Legal:

nationhood:
draft units
+2 happiness from barracks
+25% of culture in each city
+25% of spy points

Economic:

Free Market
all the present effecs should remain plus:
no upkeep
+5% of inflation


State property (high upkeep)
all the present effecs should remain plus:
reduces 1 science per city
+2 health per city

Labour:

Slavery:
-Can sacrifice population to finish production in a city
-can build mines 50% faster (and maybe 25% faster building of roads as well)

Tribalism (see the fourth suggestion)
-workers build farms 25% faster

13)I noticed that the favorite civic of the Native American civilization is enviromentalism,it would be great if there was a national wonder to ulock enviromentalism in the early period of the game

I think the game should go slower. instead of go in years it should go in months it´s going to fast. you should bulid armys and conquer before the year 1AD

Should be able to go beyond earth to other planets. Like the afterworld mod in BtS, but have an actual game of civ on that other planet. Fight as alien races or destroy them. Or have a campaign mode!
