Why is Byzantine Leaderheadless?

Justinian is the late leaderhead of Rome but Byzantine is treated as an independent empire. Plus, why is Russia and Byzantine at war so early when actually, at about that time, the trade relationship between Russia and Byzantine was viewed as one of the most important relationships of the time?

Um, you answered the question yourself. The Byzantines are an independent civ, they were just given their flag and UU for theme. That reminds me, I need to post my modcomp to make Byzantine playable. Although I should finish their UHV and UP first...

I am playing the BTS version. They have their own unique civilization in BTS but in the mod that came with the game I cannot communicate with them but I certainly should be able to.

....

They are a minor civ, just like the Independents. You can't communicate with them.

It is similar to the Greek game in the original Civ4, with may civlisations you couldn't talk to or acknowledge.

And what about Greece? If Greece is playable, Byzantium can't be, same as with France and Celts.

...or Byzantium can spawn over Greece, just as Babylon is spawned over by Turkey and Arabia...

Whitefire,

Glad to hear somebody is making a modcomp, because I'd like nothing more than to stop those Turks in their tracks at the gate of the Queen of Cities. I await it eagerly!

Might I suggest a possible UHV point?
-Control Rome, Constantinople, Carthage, and Alexandria in (some year). That's the core cities of old Rome, which of course it was Justinian's goal to restore!

You misunderstand. I modified the 600AD start and a few other files to make Byzantium a playable civ. I didn't add them in to entire mod because that would require SDK work.

Changing Byzantium into Greece isn't easier and better?

Nope. Greece didn't exist again until more modern times. It would be ridiculous to remove the Byzantines considering how pivotal they were post 600AD.
