Fun 101: Driving Isabella into the sea.

Playing as Roosevelt of the Americans, I started to develop a nice, roomy civilization on an island, shared only with Isabella in the north. Through contact with nearby islands, I met the rest of the world's inhabitants, including Monty, who warmed up to me considerably once I switched to his religion. Of course, I knew Isabella was going to be upset with me for ditching her precious Buddha.

It wasn't until just before I got Guilds that the inevitable happened. Monty asked me to join him in a war against Isabella. I agreed, and he went after the eastern part of her empire, while I went after the west. She had six cities on the mainland, with another 4 or 5 on a nearby island. After producing a horde of knights and catapults, I took Valencia at about the same time that Monty took Murcia, but he lost it a couple turns later. I took Barcelona, a great city in the center of the island (with the Apostolic Palace, which of course Isabella was leader of). Soon after, I took Murcia myself and declared peace.

Using the Apostolic Palace, she tried to reassign Murcia back to her. The resolution failed miserably.

After 10 turns, the war was on again. She didn't stand a chance. She had nothing more than Spearmen and Swordsmen to go up against my Knights. Just before I took another city, she spun off her island cities into a Dutch colony, leaving her with only three cities left. The Dutch were a vassal state of hers, but they never attacked me.

She tried again to use the Apostolic Palace to stop the war, but the resolution failed. I took her last three cities, and that was the end of her. On the next turn, I was voted as leader of the Apostolic Palace. I took the crown from her head and placed it on my own, before tossing her into the sea. Willem van Oranje just shrugged, tossed me a bag of gold and asked for a treaty.

All was well on the island of America.

Isabella without power is a hilarious thing. In the 18-Civ Earth scenario, she was stuck to just one tiny city, but still trying to force her demands on people. I denied one of her requests for a tech, and instead of her threatening me with her numberless minions or whatever, all I got was a "Well, dang."

I put her out of her misery a few hundred years later. P=
