Multiplayer BTS quiery...

Is it possible to play multiplayer with beyond the sword, without the hastle that Civ 4 original gives you? I never managed to play MP on civ 4 due to a course of problems ie 'init' errors and DLL errors, after having installed the apparently must have 1.74 patch. I was wondering, because BTS has prompted me to download patch 303 in order to play multi player, if i am going to get the run around all over again? or can i jump straight into the action, no strings attached?

i've played a few unpatched BTS multiplayer games with zero issues/problems

then again i never had any problems doing the same with vanila

How can you play MP un patched? Whenever i click MP, it loads the interface (ie chatroom with games going on etc) but then a pop up says i must install the new patch in order to play...

yeah, and then you press "cancel/no" and play anyway.

though of course that means you can only play with ppl on the same version as you.

Works not for me, I'm immediately thrown out of the room back to login when I press cancel. Log in again, same thing. Not that I mind, just testing..

hum....i just realized that it might be because you guys are playing through xfire or something like it.....i've only played LAN or Direct IP multiplayer games.

Why would you not want to patch to 303? You have to be the same version as everyone else in the lobby or you can't play MP. I have no idea what problems you had with vanilla civ4 in MP. but it sound like you had a corrupt install somehow. If you got your BTS from Steam or Direct2Drive you have to get the 303 patch from them, the auto patch will not work for those versions.
