Well that ruined everything
So I'm playing an OCC and cultivating a relationship with tokugawa, Joao, and Ghandi. Toku and Ghandi become Vassals of Joao. Joao asks me to go to war with degaulle, thinking this will help my relationship with him I say sure. All of the sudden I've declared war on Joao, Toku, Ghandi, and Degaulle. It took me a minute to realize what had happened. Then the message appeared on my screen about 15 seconds too late. Degaille had become a vassal of Joao, and I had then of course declared war on everyone. I'm waiting for that patch.....

I had this happen once...Hannibal wanted a DOW on Pericles. I refused...after a few seconds I find out that Pericles is now Hannibal's vassal. I was so glad I did not go to war on Hannibal's advise.

time for some fair use of the autosave
![]() in similar vein, myself + vassal were at war with Shaka, as was His Excellency. I've got everything prepped for a clear crushing of every city within 3 turns (plus setters at the ready). Then His Excellency uses his one stack to cap a city, Shaka becomes his vassal and we're all at peace all of a sudden :| His Excellency is miniscule compared to my civ, I guess the AI doesn't takes any account of the possibility I might just *really* want to take out a civ (or snatch the land) before taking on a vassal? i think its verry smart of the AI. In the above situations you actually declared war on them and the AI will not get an war weariness penalty like when they would declare on you. So they now can fight on longer plus they are stronger.

Just had Justinian DoW on me, virtually smash one of my stacks on the border, then the AP (Justinian's, btw)pops up asking for a vote to stop the war HE declared. I said yes, since his SoD would have torn through my lands, but I did use another stack to punish his SoD (still got wiped out, but I blunted the initial attack). Sure enough, next turn, we're back at peace! But now I have to scramble to rebuild my military, before Justinian gets to feeling his wine again and comes after me. I lost rifles, grenadiers and cannon, but I get to replace them now with infantry, artillery and tanks.
