How to change starting unit for civs? (warrior/scout)
It's not that it's something I can't live with, but I find the absolute assignment of Warrior or Scout on a civ by civ basis kinda arbitrary.
I opened C:\Program Files\Games\Civ4\Assets\XML\Civilizations, made a backup of CIV4CivilizationInfos.xml, then searched. Under each Civ I clearly see an entry like so: <FreeUnitClasses> <FreeUnitClass> <UnitClassType>UNITCLASS_SETTLER</UnitClassType> <iFreeUnits>1</iFreeUnits> </FreeUnitClass> </FreeUnitClasses> I assumed this is what I was looking for, but I'm baffled that the Warrior/Scout setting doesn't appear! To test, I duplicated the middle four lines for China, but changed the unit class to Scout. Sure enough, I started my game and China got a Settler, Scout... and a Warrior. It seems the data I want to mess with is somewhere else. I've looked everywhere. Anyone have any idea? |

The initial warrior/scout is actually controlled by techs. If you start with Hunting, you get a Scout. Otherwise, you get a Warrior.

Oh, cute. Well in that case... I guess I'll just leave my added line there and simply delete the warrior I start with to be fair. Thanks.
BTW, it's come to my attention that this is on the wrong board. Is there a way I can ask a mod to either move or delete it? |
