Educational Games

Here's a list of educational games I know of, that would be suitable for Teens and above. I would like to see if there are any other games like these for you to share.

If you have any other games that you would like to add, please tell me it.

Peacemaker: www.peacemakergame.com
This game is about the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. The object of the game is to have two states, Palestine and Israel. This game is a lot harder than it sounds. Costs $20 USD.

Pax Warrior: http://www.paxwarrior.com/home/index.php
This game puts you in the seat of a UN Peacekeeping commander during the 1994 Rwandan genocide. Still in beta stage for educational purposes, used in some Canadian schools.

A Force More Powerful: http://www.afmpgame.com/
A game on non-violent protest.

No doubt there are others, but I forgot quite a few of them.

Civilization is sort of educational.

Like before that, I couldn't even name all 7 wonders of the world.

I learned from Sim City 2000 about how simple managing a city is, and that crime is just a matter of building police stations, and revenue is just a matter of denying public services. Also, rails create less pollution then traffic and are every bit as conveniant, and ocean can be buldozed if necessary. Finally, we're 43 years away from fusion power.

Real Lives 2007 is good. I wish there were more political sims out there. And good government election sims.

I was going to suggest Real Lives. I didn't realize 2007 was out. I just downloaded it and I'll have to give it a shot, it sounds a little more interesting.

I messed around with the demo for Democracy, which seems like a solid game. The demo's limited, so I can't vouch for that too much, but I'll go for the full thing and give it a better look once I have a little more extra cash.

There is a one hour free trial for Democracy. Just type it in google.

How exactly do you get Real Lives, you need to be in an organization?

No they say that in a lot of installs. Just write none or make something up. They don't require it.

One hour trial?

Whoever makes a trial which is timed, is utterly retarded in every way.

WolfQuest, an educational game where you play as a wolf. The game currently has a demo, but will be free when it comes out. The games interesting, but I found the controls annoying.

Capitalism II is a pretty good economic simulation game. A full version trial, but it is 120 minutes, or 2 hours, double the time of regular trials. BTW, here's a great site for some abandonware/freeware/other games, most of which you can download the full version. (Balance of Power, SimTower, though I can't get it to work, and some underdogs.)

Oh yes, that was the first game that came to mind when I saw this topic. Recently picked it up again, it's quite a nice/fun business simulator.

Any kind of transport simulator (Transport Tycoon, the Railroad Tycoon series) fit into the same category. Patrician III as well though I grew tired of that one rather quickly.

I've learned load of crap from Civilization. Civ 2 tech descriptions were almost encyclopedia like.

Games like Civ and the TW series have helped me with my history and to a degree, games like command and conquer has helped me with things like planning and even games like Football Manager have helped me with thigns like money and what not.

All games can educate you to a degree.

Oh, and pitfall taught me never to get eaten by crocodiles

I will tell you this, I saw AFMP in two sources, one likely and one unlikely, the likely source was Game Informer magazine, the unlikely source was WorldChanging: A user's guide to the 21st century which is basically a book on how to achieve an eco-friendly nice-government utopia which is actually a nice read, but costs about $40 for a 600+ page hardcover with a nice case.

If you have trouble on Peacemaker, assuming its the full version, its harder than it looks.

This is why I will give you a basic walkthrough

Palestine:

1. Don't beg for control over anything until you are 75% in the Israeli cooperation poll, seriously.
2. Don't beg for aid from other nations until you are 75% good relations.
3. Never beg from your allies.
4. Use speeches and meetings, they are your best friends in the beginning.

Israel:

1. Its harder than Palestine, do not play it like it is Palestine.
2. Speeches don't achieve much if Israeli.
3. You will have to ruin your Yeshua rating by the time you win, don't try to balance it out. However, you should try to squeeze out ask for restraint for as long as you can.
4. Less Criticism is your friend to short-term good ratings.
5. Do not give aid until your cooperation rating is at least 75% and your Israeli approval is 30.
6. Never use missile strikes or extreme measures, seriously, you'll ruin your chances of peace.

Heh I wish I could by that peacemaker game. Its rarity is its unavailability in Lebanon. And I can't buy it off from Amazon for some weird reason (Probably the political crisis and the incoming civil war hopefully not)

Buy it off their website. If for the reason you don't have a credit card, you will need to buy it off someone. You can also convince your school to buy copies of the game to promote peace.
