Custom leaderhead.xml problems
Hi
Ok here is deal. A few weaks ago I read about how someone made a custom leader and gave them ALL the traits at once. I thought that that was kind of neat. So here is what I did. I went into game assets and found leaderheadinfo.xml file. I made a copy and moved copy to a new folder. I edited a leader in the copy with note pad to give em all the traits. I moved the edited xml file into the customs assets folder dropping it in customassets>xml>civilizations And it worked!! That leader, Frederick, now had ALL the traits at once. I played a few games with it. And whenever I wanted to go back to a normal game I would just take the edited leaderheadinfo.xml out of the customs assets file and put it into a folder on my desktop and the game would go back to normal. Or so I THOUGHT. Maybe this just started happening or maybe it has always been happening and I just didnt notice. But today I decided to play a normal game so I took the editied file out of customs assets and put it into its folder on my desktop. Only Freaderick is STILL getting ALL the traits. :/ I restarted my computer. That didnt work. I changed the name of the custom file. That didnt work. I deleted ALL saved games that had been played using the custom leader. That didnt work. I delted the editied xml file completely and THAT didnt work. I double checked the default leaderheadinfo.xml in the game assets folder and Fredericks traits are as they should be. So that file is still intact. So how is the game STILL loading the editied one. Even now that its deleted? I looked and there are no other copies anywhere. I even empied the recycle been. SO there shouldnt even be a editied copy anywhere on my computer anmore much less the game can find it. This is very confusing especially since UNTIL today it seemed to work like I thought it should. If I put the editied .xml in the custom assets folder then that .xml would load instead of the default when game started up. And if I removed the edited .xml from the custom assets folder then the default file would load like normal when game started up. Like I said it always seemed to work like that before but maybed I just didnt notice that it was always using the editied .xml even if I took it out of custom assets. But how is it using it now even after I have deleted it?? And I double and triple checked and Fredericks traits in the default leaderheadinfo.xml are unedited so why isnt that file loading? I am very confused :/ Kaytie |

Sounds like maybe you need to clear the cache.
C:\Documents and Settings\USERNAME\Application Data\My Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 4\cache There might be a seperate folder ther for BtS. Also I think the cache my get reloaded by going in and out of different mods.

Thank you very much for responding ![]() Yeah I was thinking it MIGHT be the cache. That was why one of things I tried was restarting my computer hoping THAT would clear the cache. But it didnt seem to. I did find a way to work round it. What I did do was make a copy of unedited .xml and put it in the customassets folder and that at least got it going back to default. And I did notice that when it changes at the startup it will say "init xml (uncached)" and when it SHOULD change but doesnt even though I changed the .xml file in custom assets it would say "init xml (cached)" like it was still loading up from the cache of the old settings. I just wish there was easy way to make the stupid thing clear out the cache without having to dig through folders and doing it by hand :/. So far it seems like just dropping a new .xml file in customassets WILL make it start a new cache. But like I said it seemed like it WAS working when I just removed the edited file ou of customassets. You'd think if dropping something new would make it redo the cache that taking something out would too. I even tried tricking it by dropping the editied file in and out a few times before finally leaving it on desktop but it didnt work :/. It seems like if I have to take the file outof custom assets by hand and then find the cache and empty it by hand it might just be quicker switching out the two .xml files. Which is annoying since you'd think I shouldnt have to put a copy of default .xml in custom assets when it should JUST use the .xml in assets when custom assets is completely empty so I shouldnt HAVE to do it that way :/. (not to mention I KNOW sooner or later I am gonna get the two xml files mixed upped hehe) Anyways thank you again ![]() Kaytie |

You can disable file caching in the CivilizationIV.INI file. Will slow initialization.
