Barbarian AI

unfortunately, a barbarian archer spawned adjacent to my borders, or spawned one space away and then immediately moved adjacent to my border. Either way, it spawned somewhere where I had visibility, and caught me by surprise. At least it seems this way, can anyone confirm that they can do that?
It is simultaneous turns, multiplayer.

I didn't think they could catch you by surprise like that, spawning so close to your city.

Anyways, the only possible defense I have is leading the archer away from my town by sacrificing a worker. Does anyone know what the barbarian will do if it has the choice, raze my city, or attack the worker?

I've noticed that you don't get the warning, or it happens on the host's computer and not when you log in. not sure about the worker/city

They'll race the city if it is past time where they would normaly attack cities.. As for no warning barbs can spawn and move the same turn probably. It is also possible that you had just missed it of course.. Barbs can spawn anywhere in the fog of war so having some defense in your cities is nice... One of the many reasons i don't like barbs in pitboss.
