Wonder videos cause all Civ 4 & expansions to crash

I haven't had this issue for very long (I think it first appeared a few weeks after I got Beyond the Sword - maybe after the patch or maybe after getting my new video card actually)

When a wonder video plays, it runs fine for about 1 second, before freezing up (no sound either). At this point I click OK as soon as possible and sometimes after about 15 seconds it will close and everything will be fine. However, if I let it run its course, the in-game graphics become totally messed up, and as a result it slows to a crawl (and at this point I exit out as soon as possible!)

I have the latest drivers, patches, and everything. As I mentioned before, this hasn't always been an issue, but it is really turning me off from playing the game which is a crime, to say the least.

I have a GeForce 7800 GS, 1 gb of ram, 2.8 ghz intel 4.

Again, this is a relatively new problem but one that I really want a fix for (I like the videos and I don't want to have to turn them off!)

I have already tried going into the config file and making the background black, but that didn't work.

I would assume that a disk for the drivers came with the video card. Except, Nvidia even makes mistakes on their drivers so you might need a different version which can be found at Nvidia.com. Sometimes that happens, and when it does there is a readme file of what game had a problem, in which case, they fix the drivers, so it could be something like that. If not, then start up the computer in Safe Mode and delete the video drivers by going back to VGA drivers and then after all of that - reinstall the video drivers. It should not be necessary now, but sometimes that was necessary in the Past to completely remove the drivers. So, if the video drivers were not fully removed, then the new drivers are not really fully installed, and it can mess up your computer. usually that is automatic now, but to be sure start up the computer in safemode and completly get rid of the old drivers by going to a basic VGA video driver supplied by microsoft. Then get the new drivers to install correctly after that, and it may cure the problem.

I'll give it a shot - I always keep my drivers up to date and I do recall having to do that in the past (long time past mind you) but at this point I'll try anything.

I'm cautiously optimistic it will work. Cautious because every other game works fine, so we'll see.

Any other ideas in case (knock on wood) this doesn't work?
