Prince isolation start
Whenever I start a prince level game, i am always situated on my own small continent. I at first thought this was a blessing, but I find that I always fall behind on tech, no matter how many science cities i have. Is this common? what should i do for this?

What map style are you playing? Try continants, pangea or terra. It is normal to fall behind like that. You have to trade other techs to the AI, you can't get by just by yourself abpve noble.

Uhm, yes you can. And it's not that hard. I can easily play a game on prince having the lead on tech, without trading much. Monarch too. Higher of course is a bit hard.

I always play on fractal, the undpredictable map. When i jumped levels, i always played as Rome, having heard that they are the easiest. As Rome, i start on my own little continent, all three times. I played last night as Inca, and started on the main continent with everyone else. maybe its just a rome thing

To research techs fast, it helps to keep your number of cities small and maximize the commerce in each - if you have a landmass to yourself, this is easier. If not, one feels obliged to expand before the AIs grab all the available land.
