Single or multi-player?
I read some threads here before, discussing how the AI is incapable of properly utilising some of the races' traits/units/buildings/synergy etc
I'm a regular BTS player, and I feel the AI does a pretty solid job of posing a challenge. My question is, is FFH2's AI capable of posing a serious threat in most games? Is this game catered more towards single or multi-player? I did try a couple of games (single player)but stopped halfway because I made a couple of mistakes ( not specialising techs ) and wanted to try other races. For those who play FFH2 multi-player, is there a way I can find friends/opponents to play against? Sad to say none of my friends are Civ fans, so I'm pretty much on my own here. I also want to add that I realise this is a mod and Kael+co are not obliged to "serve" the community, so to speak, and I'm grateful of everything they and the rest of the community have contributed thus far. |

The game is designed for Single Player use. There are numerous aspects which may not work well with Multi-player, depending on your preferences (lots of random bonuses and whatnot).
However, the AI is not going to be tweaked for a little while yet, so at present doesn't do an amazing job across the board with everything possible. It will still surprise you some times, but not often will it make use of magic and the like very efficiently. For multiplayer, many use Hamachi, or #erebus through the chat function in these boards. Singleplayer can still be great fun, just be sure to play a level or 2 up from what you normally would in BtS.

Turning on the "No AI Building Requirements" is pretty necessary for a good game too.

I still wish for one No-AI multiplayer game, with a dose of roleplaying. An epic clash of T4 armies late in the game, with magic used on both sides to maximum effect, and all tricks played on equal footing, with alliances that really matter, and allies that carry out plans together.
Well that might come true soon.

For the moment, I recommend playing with the armageddon counter disabled, because of the pestilence event. (kills every living unit in the world)

I find the game much more fun in multiplayer (with a bunch of home-brewn changes; see my "The Way We Play Multiplayer" thread). The AI is simply not fun to play against. Either it's a push-over or you can feel how much it is cheating to be a threat at all. The most fun I've had in multiplayer so far is in simple 1v1 matches on a small map. Every move counts, every decision can win or lose you the game. There's nothing quite like it.
As for finding players, yes #erebus on irc.irc-chat.net works, or you can post on these forums here (but that may work better for setting up a scheduled game, not for finding one RIGHT NOW), or you can harass people one by one on hamachi.

You know, I just had the pestilence event in a game, and I didn't notice a single loss. This is the event that talks about the graveyards overflowing right? I got scared when it happened because I had read on here that every living unit died when it occured. I looked and looked and looked and couldn't find anything missing from my army. This was a single player game though. I wonder if it's different in multi-player.

Insofar as I understand the issue, the Pestilence event triggers once per player (and AI, I think). So in a multiplayer game, it is really deadly. This bug never came up in testing because Kael usually tests on a duel map with only himself and one AI.

So is RP on multiplayer games common or is it all "pro" play?

I have heard of a few groups who prefer to do more diplomatic games, but haven't heard anything about strictly RP playstyles. Many do "Pro" play sadly.

I think the main limitation from pulling off an RP game is that most of the people who are interested in RP seem to self-mod a lot, so would have problems connecting
I think that I should have some free time this weekend though, so I might re-install to clear up my personal touches and see about doing a nice big RP game with some interested people.

That is true, hehe, but with all those patches coming so quickly I personally decided to put it off a bit.
Second problem might be stability, I'm not sure how many players can be in without game overloading and kicking people out.

What does a "pro" game consist of?

Warmongers. And generally VERY planned moves, and a desire for no AI, Barbarians, Events, Unique Features....

They are dark, evil and vicious!
Well experience is closer to warcraft 3 or AoE just turn based. So strict research order, build order, troops, troops, and attack. Game is in 99% cases over until midgame. I strongly resent that playstyle. It is not like you are leading a civilization to stand a test of time, just the opposite.
