If you play the an expansionist civ with goody huts on, you can do it well before 1000 BC.
In his fast launch game, DaveMcW did in 1990 BC, while Ronald got it in 1950 BC in his Diplo Race. SirPleb managed 2310 BC in his fast diplo game.

It sounds impressive when you list the dates like that, but checking SirPleb's write-up, it just serves as a reminder of why we remove a lot of the goody huts from GOTM, and don't play with SGLs. I don't see any really great play in his first post there, just a lot of restarting until several rather unlikely but disproportionately beneficial events come together for him.My best date is certainly before 1000bc, but probably not before 1100bc. (Edit: and yes, I was one of the 2/30 who voted against goody huts in that poll)

I agree there's no great strategy to the expansionist AA (although I think my personal best is a rather sluggish ca 1600 BC), but getting to the UN in the 200s or to launch in the 500s is another story.

I think mine was 1675 BC at the earliest, but I definitely remember one around 1300 BC with England. But a lot of this is luck too, so I didn't pay too much attention.
