Cerunnos
What process took place to make Cernunnos a god? Did the other gods vote on making him a god? Did sucellus take arawn's sphere of life and just gave his old sphere of nature to cerunnos? if that's the case, how poweful is he in comparison to the other gods? Bhall was able to easily kill her archangel Brigit but she held back. Would another god be able to easily kill Cernunnos since he was just an archangel before or is his power comparable to the rest of the pantheon?

I think it was a sort of chain of command thing, I need to look at the FFH history thing.
Just how powerful is Cernunnos? well even though he is the most powerful archangel, he was easily defeated in a way by Agares. I don't know which god is the weakest, but even Cernunnos is alot weaker than the weakest god. IMO he probably has more of a demi-god status, but he is still Succellus's archangel. Still, if Agares could do that to him, a stronger god could easily take him. Last edited by smjjames; Jun 03, 2008 at 06:07 PM. |

I don't know the exact mechanism, but I assume that Sucellus gifted the Precept of Nature to Cernunnos the same way that Arawn gifted the Precept of Life to Sucellus and that Nemed had gifted it to Arawn.
Cernunnos was the strongest Archangel, but is now the weakest god. I don't know exactly how their powers compare. Of course, Agares was almost certainly the strongest of the gods. The only two times we know that an archangel faced a god directly were Cernunnos vs. Agares and Taranis vs. Sucellus. Tarnis manages to hold Sucellus off, but that is because his unchanging nature didn't allow him to be injured. Kael has stated that there isn't exactly a strict hierarchy of who is stronger than whom, since the gods all represent/embody abstract concept that cannot really be compared. I believe that Kael also said that no one knows if Cernunnos can be killed without the Goslayer, or if the Godslayer would have any effect on him. (He didn't personally agree to the compact, so is he bound by it?) |

There is still a chain of command though since the archangels still have to answer to their god/ess.
I meant who was the weakest god besides Cernunnos, as in who was the weakest before Cernunnos became a god, or the second weakest after Cernunnos. Anyways, where is the Taranis vs. Sucellus thing mentioned? there is alot of lore that is not in the history section in the pedia, and much of it don't even know. |

so he is definetly weaker than the rest of the gods? i would assume that but i wasnt sure if he went through some sort of physical transformation that bestowed godhood upon him.

Brigit faced Bhaal directly as well during her "Fall from Heaven" so that makes them 3 direct face-offs. As seen in Birgits enty in the pedia.
In the comparison depicted there an archangel seems like a fly to a watton boy. (Freely "borrowed" form Cassiel .One thought of that god was enough to rost 440 of her Angels crispy in the blink of an eye. Even though the goddess of fire might well be one of the more powerful gods and Brigit one of the rather less powerful archangels given her in-Game Stats.. It's odd to think of an archangel becoming a god. Apparently there was a divine convocation, and the other gods conferred the attribute of Nature upon Cernunnos since he was Sucellus' archangel. Still, I can't get rid of the image of Cernunnos dressed in a three-piece suit and being interviewed for the job "So, Mr. Cernunnos, what are your qualifications for the position of god of Nature?"

Sucellus was the only god involved in the decision to hand the dominion of nature over to Cernunnos. But he is one of my favorite characters, form his attack on Agares, his protection of the Ljosalfar during the Age of Ice and his assention to godhood. All cool stuff.
I keep wanting to write a fawn and satyr story that involves Cernunnos before his assention but Ive never been able to get them into a state I was happy with.

The history specifies that Sucellus granted his old precept to Cernunnos when he returned from the dead, now having the precept of Life.
