PolyCast Episode 46: "Sound Effects" with 'Pinchak' and 'CanuckSoldier'

One guest co-host per two regular co-hosts is the order of the panel on PolyCast's forty-sixth episode entitled "Answer to Everything". An official podcast of Apolyton Civilization Site (ACS) running 44m59s in length, regular co-hosts Daniel "DanQ" Quick and Makahlua and Imran Siddiqui with Annalee "Cartimandua" Barney are joined by Chris "Pinchak" and Jon "CanuckSoldier" Ryder.

The summary of topics is as follows:

- 03m26s | News
GameSpot releases the demo for Civilization: Revolution (discussion #1, #2 and #3), Electronic Arts extends their deadline on their offer for Take-Two Interactive and no Civilization IV: Beyond the Sword expansion expected for the Mac.
- 17m10s | Theatre
Chris "Pinkchak", Jon "CanuckSoldier" Ryder and Cartimandua relay recent CivIV triumphs and disappointments.
- 23m39s | Forum Talk
The defensive bonus with culture in Civilization IV is a sticking point for one of the co-hosts, and adding a limit on the era of Vassals.
- 30m23s | Research Lab
Splitting civilizations in-game and the concept of a megaopolis.
- 38m35s | Senate
The importance of blockades in CivIV with the Beyond the Sword expansion.

- Intro/Outro | Miscellaneous
A voicemail reply call-out and responding to the proclamation "I've done it".

Another one to ear... Thanks Dan I'll ear especially the part on cultural defense ( I also on that sometimes )

P.S How about putting this "on paper" , for those of us that want to make our working hours even more improductive reading it, instead of wasting precious time that we could be using to play?

You can always have episodes running as your sound in the background while you play.

As for transcripts themselves, they are incredibly time consuming and we do not have the staff resources at present to put them together unfortunately. If you or anyone is interested and available in assisting in transcribing, please PM me. We would love to be able to offer that option, particularly in a timely fashion (i.e. within 1-2 weeks of an episode's release).

Question

Anyone else browsing this thread hear this episode? Questions? Comments? Save r_rolo1's above, there hasn't been any feedback on this forum for a number of episodes so I figured now is as good a time as any to follow-up on this one at least.

Yeah, I listened to it (I never miss an episode.) It was entertaining as usual, but I can never think of any specific feedback. I do appreciate the effort that are put into producing these podcasts, and that you come around here to tell us about them though, so I'd hate to see you discouraged by a lack of feedback.

My favourite episode thus far is the Alpha Centauri special. I also particularly enjoy the top ten lists and the anguished groans they draw from your co-hosts.

Keep up the good work

Sound Effects was definitely an enjoyable episode, and there were one or two topics I almost commented upon (but I don't remember what they were at the moment).

The Alpha Centauri special, I might not have bothered to listen to that one, at least not much of it. Never played SMAC.

I liked it No comments to make ( besides : Keep on the good work )

BTW I read in apolyton that you were thinking in interviewing the Planetfall mod team ( IMHO it is one of the best mods being done now, and i would not be surprised if it would be one of the Best Civ IV Mods along with FfH and Rhye's ( if the get a SDKer, that is ). Do you already had scheduled that?

Awesome! Out of curiosity, how long have you been a listener?

Thank you for acknowledging and saying so. It is an involved process on my part as editor but I still believe the end result to be worth it.

We recognize that listeners are more likely to 'let their keyboards be heard' if they're displeased with what they're hearing, but it was odd having no comments on new episodes on this forum for a few months running after regularly having them for the 6+ months preceding. That's what precipitated my "comments?" question above.

-- memorable they were it seems. You could always listen again (or skim through even).

That's a question for the ModCast crew.

Note that the Planetfall MOD is covered to some degree on the PolyCast SMAC Special released just over a month ago which has Maniac as one of the panelists.

I still download them, but since my iPhone connection is corroded (my daughter got a hold of it and saliva isn't good on connections) I can't upload them. Since I always listened to them at work, I've missed a lot of them. I'll have to try and listen to it at home, though that's typically hard to do. It's easier at work, since I have nothing else to do.

Try running an episode (or more ) as your background audio while you play Civ. Using Winamp as an example, you could queue one episode to begin after another finishes.

I started tuning in around the same time that BtS was announced, so I think episode 11 or 12. I definitely remember listening to episode 12. I came looking for BtS-related news, and I stayed for the laughs

Yes, the BtS 3.17 patch is one of the topics discussed in our next episode.

That makes you one of the longest running listeners of the show that I am aware of.

When I saw "Pinchak", I thought they misspelled my name again.
