As for the size of the stacks, I think we do need monster size stacks as the AI (especially those we have left alone) will have huge lots of troops to hit us with.

The report

Now the jokes get real hot:

Spoiler:

Anyhow, we made some progress - but the game gets darn annoying soonish I guess.

With the discovery of Plastics we nailed the Modern Era...

We built Standard Ethanol. It gives +4 beakers and Oil, and was built as much for safety reasons (after all our sea-based oil might get ripped down at some point) and denial reasons.

We razed...

...and we saw Fighters appearing. Not good. Zara is scary. As soon as bombers appear - and that might not be too far off - we have to consider building some Carriers and Fighters for protection of our land stacks.

We have some Tanks already, I've tried to gather a 2nd stack. We might get into wealth mode soon though for some turns - stock is running low.

Hmmm .... okay with the decision on ethanol, since it still gives +4 commerce, not that bad vs settling (we just lost a hammer and 9 beakers).

But, why are we going after radio? I would think SAM infantries (hence rocketry) is a better counter against enemy planes.

Also, do we really need to stick the first stack together? I doubt the chinese has much resistance left (except for the new addition of 5 riflemen for every city razed) to waste so many units to stick together. And what's more, the first stack had gone further inland, making sending reinforcement a lot harder and riskier.

Instead, we should have split the stack into a strong one and weaker ones, move the weaker one near to the coast (ofcourse razing/pillaging along the way) so that our reinforcement with the great general can join the second stack.

A quick look around shows that our only attacking stack is in deepest darkest China along way from anywhere we can hurt any AI of note. We have only 3 modern navy units. We are trying to win this are we?

The only plan of note I can see is to move the stack towards Gilgamesh and the coast (after razing the city it is parked outside of) adding some tanks, offloading some troops as well maybe for upgrading into our second stack. Let's work towards that then.

We raze some Chinese city.

I load some rifles in transports to be taken back to the homeland for upgrading and absorption into a second stack and drop of some Tanks into the original stack.

And raze another Chinese city.

And another. Actually lose a tank here at 90+ odds.

I split the stacks up as well.

Radio comes in and Rocketry selected.

We get a GS that is merged.

Our navy is proving inadequate so I build some more ships. We lose our fish and nearly the oil and 2 of the 3 modern units we already had before things are under control again.

More razing (forgot a couple of piccies as well)

Once we get more artillery and tacks we have a decent size stack to start to take out either Zara->Charly-> Sulemain or the other way around. We have 21 units to send now. I reckon 30 will be needed at least to absorb the first attack wave.

China should be history soon then Gilgamesh then Justinian. The stacks are now back to 2 (I somehow managed to get the artillery all together in one of them while using the other for pillaging). We should re-merge before entering Gilgamesh central.

We are also running out of money. Twice we've been saved by pillaging. Maybe we need to get some more GMs employed.

Good luck, we'll need it.

EDIT: We have a GG sitting around. We should make one of the rifles a medic for the second stack.

Hmm ... I am not sure that's your best play, Ozzy. Firstly is ofcourse the distribution of uits among the stacks , next is also what is the GG doing still back home? He should have followed the reinforcement and give us a second supermedic for the other stack. Healing is now the single most important consideration since AI is bringing monstrous amount of units to suicide into our stacks.

berserks_01 is UP.

Well slightly in my defense is the second stack has now turned into a pillaging stack (that you proposed before) as it has enough 2 movement units to take down a town to rubble in a turn. Second GG is a medic-in-waiting for the stack to go out. The stacks out there need to merge before entering a new AI territory to take the monster stack that will come.

I'm very sorry. My time is quite limited (tough I have holidays) as I have to write that "abitur thesis" which I of course started way too late. Also the squash season started a few weeks ago and many matches/tournaments are being held now, which takes away more time.

If I have some time for civ it's usually eaten by SGOTM. So I request a permaskip until things calm down a bit.

Sorry again, for the late notice.

lurker's comment:

Wow, losing money at 100% cash, that's got to hurt

I have had a quick look at the save and you can save 10 gpt by spending a turn building a courthouse. You are paying just over 10 gpt in city costs and inflation is currently 97%, 50% of which is 10 gpt. I know it doesn't sound much, but every little helps .
