I have a brand new machine, completely fresh install of windows professional, the june 2008 version of directX, and the 3.17 BtS patch (civ4/warlords/bts).
The game locks up for me at the Loading/Laden/Chargement screen. I never get the progess bar. I've formated the hard drive and reinstalled windows a few times already trying to solve this. Please help... My system: Intel core 2 quad q9450 2.66 ghz bfg geforce gtx 260 OC 896mb 4g ram seagate sataII 750g hard drive Asus p5n-t deluxe system board

No, nothing in the event viewer. When it locks up, there are other symptoms of things going wrong with windows, like restarting windows does nothing (I have to kill the power), and eventvwr doesn't launch. If I reboot and launch eventvwr, there are no error messages there.

you could enable logging in the game and see whether the game logs contain anything (its unlikely though)
open the civilizationIV.ini and set a ll items with log in their name to 1 then try to startup the game

I found the problem after many XP reinstalls. It was one of the drivers for my system board... Nvidia MediaShield. I got new drivers from the website and it fixed the issue.
