PC can't find disc in drive.
I recently bought a copy of Civ 4 and tried to install it. It installed fine but then had problems with compatability so i've worked on all that (run as XP, run as administrator etc, and put d3dx9.dll file into the civ 4 folder) and now its working as compatable i guess. I double click the icon and it gets to the loading screen before saying that the dvd disc (i've got the one disc version of the game) is not in the disc drive. I've reinstalled it and it still won't work. Please tell me what i'm doing wrong and how i can solve the problem. Thanks in advance - ps i'm new and have little ability when it comes to pc's so a dumbed down explanation would be really appreciated
Thanks again,Martin (i'm running vista on a medion (. .. .. .. . i know) laptop in case that helps) |

welcome to cfc
![]() this is an issue with safedisc (the copy protection system). you should verify that your cd/dvd drive drivers and firmware are uptodate. if in doubt post your dxdiag results here. you can get those by clicking on start then on find and type dxdiag - then start that program and click on save results. You can attach that saved file to a post here by clicking on go advanced and then on manage attachments. apart from that: some antivir programs can interfere with safedisc - try disabling that do you have a virtual drive/emulation software running (I guess not) if so uninstall it run the program with administrator rights - you have to grant those explicitly to the program in vista

i downloaded a couple of DLL. files i found links to on other threads in the forum. I think i just did another search for cant read disk or something to that effect. You then put those files into the game folder, take off the compatability setting and run as administrator. Hope that helps, soz but its been a while since i sorted it out and my memory is a sieve. Just remember to take off compatability in the properties window, cos that seems to work quite well

I am having a similar problem. The first time I put the Civ Gold disk in, it could not be read. I restarted a few times and still it did not work. The next day it worked and I installed, but yesterday it did not work again. I have a NEC ND-3520 DVD burner and it does not seem to like the disc very much.

yours seems to be a different problem - the one in this thread was about the copy protection system - in your case the cd is not recognized at all?
you might want to check if there is a newer firmware available for your cd-drive... |
