Expansions planned

An interview confirmed that expansions are already planned. Expect the Sims2 model to be revisted.

One may be focused on plant species.

My girlfriend definitely wants the plant thing to come to reality. She and I are hoping for a marine mammal and also more feline like things. This is good news though considering the Sims model allows you to work with all your expansions at the same time.

I look forward to the expansions! Right now for me, Spore is already so amazing I can't comprehend how it could get any better. A flora editor would be cool but I can't think of anything else that would be cool. Maybe build able space objects or a feudal phase that serves as a transition between tribal and civilization phases or even adding infantry and a more powerful overall costume editor for individual critters?

Of course expansions are planned, that's how companies make all their money.
you pay about 2/3rds the cost of the original product for, what? 15% more content?

If they are going to do a boatload of expansion packs like they did with the Sims, I may have to wait until the Deluxe edition.

Well, if they do it like the Sims, then the game should still work just fine without the expansions. I expect that the Sporepedia will have effective filters to sort things between different game versions.

agreed, I don't want to waste a boat-load of money just to find out when I get home "NEW EXPANSION FOR SPORE RELEASES TOMORROW!!".........I'd say some words that can't be repeated here

Of course they would release expansions, it's Will Wright.

What to be added as new addons though?

Flora Expansion - customize your envirounment, flowers, trees.

Maritime Expansion - you can play as a water animal, fish, whale.

Aerial Expansion - fly in the skies and develop a race of constantly flying creatures.

Outer Space Expansion - construct space stations, not only colonies, and do the battle of the Death Star, in space, of course.

Planetary Expansion - new planet types, magma planets, dunes, waterworlds, gas planets, more parts for creatures.

Domestication Expansion - introduces the ability to tame or domesticate lesser-than-tribal races, and mount them or otherwise.

There are clothing editors and accessories. Not too sure about tool editors though...

Domestication is already in the game; lesser races can be domesticated and they will produce food for your tribe. I do not believe riding is in there, though.

I hope that riding will become available. But I thought more about dogs&cats and such.

Isn't this already in? I'm sure you can put wings on your creatures.

Anyways, I don't think they'll release an expansion of just one phase. It wouldn't sell.

What do you mean? I think it would sell. It's like the innumberable Sims expansions - as if Firaxis chose to include Espionage and Corporations in different expansions, not only in BtS - and they're selling, aren't they?

I'm pretty sure winged creatures can at most glide or hover for a short period of time. No taking to the skies, far as I know.

They used to have a City Phase there, but integrated it into early Civilization.

Well, the sims expansion is a little harder to compare to. The original sims had one phase: life. Spore, however, has 5 unique phases. Even if you were talking about the sims 2, those 5 'phases' of life tie into each other fairly easily, so something mainly affecting adults would also effect kids. I think that spore would be different.

I can't imagine adding intermediary stages.. too faffy to make work, especially between those that do have that xp and don't.

I presume it will simply add lots of extra body parts, and as had been said, a plant/oceanic idea seems pretty obvious.
