It really looks like an excellent game (I would know, I've been watching for 3 years or so). There's some online reviewes and a demo you might want to look at, but if you're a casual gamer, I'd just go ahead. (btw most reviews give it a 9/10. It would have been a ten if they added a a bit more depth and some other things)

Got it yesterday .
I don´t know why so many people seem to be disappointed by the game. I´m having a great time! Perhaps they expected too much from it. It´s certainly not a very "deep" game like CIV imho! It´s not something to "play through". You just sit down and have a good time taking care of your creatures, you run around, paint vehicles and blow stuff up, but it´s not one of these "serious" games if you know what I mean. Great when you want to kill some time.

I Was hoping for a lot more from Spore. all the talk and the promises and although I have the game waiting to be installed on a new machine, that will play it costing AUD $700-$900, I have serious doubts from all the forums I have been to, who have actually played it.
It is not anything Like civ2-4 sim city or even the Sims.
it is like a play doe kinda creature evolution game. and infuriating in the space part, very hard to earn cash to terraform and conquest.
from what I read. Some persevere in the hope of something coming from it all.
Probably expansions may help?
In the end it will make me get a new upgrade to play the latest games for awhile., but will also make me very wary of waiting instead of diving in naive.
I may be able to take it back and get a refund or may not.
It will just serve to show all hype and promises doesn't always succeed.
That said ,some reviews say the ability to create a lot of imaginative content out ways the game play.
So there is no harm done being creative,I would think this game is Like viirtual 3d Darwinian lego for Kids.
And that is really worth it, for we sims2 /CiV'ers, it may be a tad too basic.
Please tell me it is otherwise....

The game is fantastic.

Everyone is complaining that it's not galaxion + call of duty 4 + command & conquer tiberian sun + civ4 + galciv.

That's cuz it's NOT. It's a massively fun game, that whilst does need some work (space) is still a great game to play. I recommend it.

Are you getting this information from amateur 'reviews'? Don't. There's so much hype surrounding Spore that some people have probably been looking forward to writing a negative review for months. They'll fire up the game and look for bad points, then blow them out of proportion, but at least their thread gets lots of views and comments!

That said, I don't have the game, so for all I know they're right.

No, from a mixture or top reviewer's to actual players
Some who wanted more and are playing, to those that just are playing it with no expectations.
that seems to be the Key- you just have to "play" with it
sorta like not playing the Sims 2 for goals and careers, which is cool,
I never did and enjoyed creating/ watching.
Those that get to like it most, just Play and do not expect too much.
The great underlying thing I see, is even those that are hardcore - still spend hours playing

I've enjoyed all phase except space, for different reasons.

For instance, cell for it's cut throat do or die, or creature for it's social interactions with other species, to tribes where the foundations of diplomacy and domestication are key, and Civ where any path can win. I've only had problems enjoying space, but then I didn't think I would enjoy that phase as I prefer historical games to space based ones.

I have read some fantastic reviews mostly they are all good,The best was a lady who just played and thew aside concepts of having to do stuff to achieve.
instead just having fun. Once she let go and just played, it was great.
As Dale says it seems it is fantastic if you don't become too serious and want to
play WOW or COD4.

Once I get a new PC and can play it, it would be well worth it.even just to know people will like my creatures/etc and have fun using them,I can be creative, So I am at very least looking forward to adding amusing, unusual content.
Spore seems to have fantastic scope for that

Ordered off Amazon in the end.. cheapest place.

I'd rather get it in a few days for £26 than walk into town/rain and pay £40
