Space Age... What?!
I'm currently playing Space Age and I was really thinking this was awesome... at first... Now I think it's going to be patched very soon because there is a lot of complaining going on right now.
http://forums.electronicarts.co.uk/s...rage-here.html And I think I agree. You get declared war upon very easily in space age, if you don't pay incredible tributes, that's the way it happened to me. And these tribute requests come in every 15 minutes or so, so ... um... Yeah. I guess I could spend time farming spices all around the galaxy only to pay for tributes, but that's not fun (is there any non-first-person way to make money? I mean, at that stage, am I the only possible income source by doing missions and manually trading spice?). And once war has started, I haven't found any way to stop it or win it. First, all attacks I do are with only my ship and like two or three friendly ship, that's pretty lame. Then on defense... I can only defend my 3 or 4 colonies against constant attacks from enemy fleets. They're not hard to defeat, but meanwhile, I have absolutely no time to enjoy SPACE. I want to explore it, look at the creatures people have made randomly popping on odd colour planets, find weird artifacts, choose which planets to colonize, make them look like I want. This was at the heart of The Sims, ultra customization... It's what makes Spore fun. But now, in Space Age, I don't have time to do this because with my small, very small.. empire. I'm constantly under attack. Every 10-15 minutes someone attacks a colony, be it an enemy or pirates. I can't do anything except go there and defend it. Is there a way to have help in defending other than these ally ships you can add to your tiny ship, and the useless turrets you can build in your colonies? Because right now, it seems the enemy empires have armadas and fleets to send at me, meanwhile, I'm alone in my empire with my space ship to be able to defend ALL of my colonies at the same time. I can only be at one place at a time. And my empire is very small. Apparently it gets ridiculous with large empires. There should be the possibility to have battle and war. But at that stage of the game, I don't think the AI should be harassing you and stopping you from being creative around the galaxy. So I think maybe AIs should only attack when you really provoke them, or I don't know. Something's got to be done I think. Am I dreaming? I'm hoping for a very quick fix. |

I find this pretty annoying too. I haven't bothered colonizing at all since I would rather explore and do missions than defend random colonies. I barely even come back when my home planet gets attacked. Although that might backfire on me after a while.

You can get the ai to help you attack planets from the diplo screen if you wan't. Also if all else fails cheat for more money to make peace with.
Spore space age is the only game I reccomend cheating in because you can just run around doing whatever you want.

Ive played as a peacful race for the whole came (all the way from cell) and so never have any problem with attacks. Apart from the occasional pirate raid and the very occasional eco disaster.

I played an aggresive civilization and only have to defend my civ from eco disasters and UFO raids every 10 minutes or so.

Did you read all of the posts in that Rage thread?
Not everyone is having the constant attack hassle,according to their strategies, worth a read of those who have very few problems and make millions of sporebucks. |

It's all about the evolutionary path you pick, the fact that some people get attacked a lot and others don't shows how custom this game is.

Sounds to me (and I will soon find out) you have to stick to your own solar system once you hit space-so many people want to become mega empires and get to the center.
So I guess we are limited to the way we are in real life, scratch you way out of the solar system? much like CIV games expand your known land mass first. Yeah I know that isn't a galaxy sandbox, a Mod will make is so... |

@SpurnSpore
I currently control 9 solar systems, i did this by allying with everyone i could, and only getting attacked by the grow and UFO's every now and then, but i was 99% aggresive until the space age. I think it is vital that you ally and not attack early on. |

I've read that you have to focus on pleasing anyone who might want to attack you. As soon as you see one of these guys, immediately do missions and establish alliance and cough up all the money they want (which they should stop asking for if you are fast enough getting on their right side).

Still thinking of Space... Maybe the "outside world" should just pause or slow-down quite a bit when you're on a planet's surface? ... Of course we're often on planet surfaces... But we blink here and there because we're called everywhere.

And what's so annoying is that you get 5 calls times in a row: 2 eco-desasters, 2 planet attacks, and a "pay trubute for a sh*tload of sporebucks (and I only have 200k)."
That's why rarely play the Space stage.
