Question Will you buy (or did you buy) Colonization, Spore, Both, or Neither?

In the interests of fairness, I'm posting this poll in the Spore forum in addition to the Colonization forum, since obviously the results could be otherwise skewed. In a nutshell, will you buy (or did you buy) Colonization, Spore, Both, or Neither?

The reason I ask is because I can only afford one, and obviously neither of these games can be rented to try before I buy.

Just Spore for me. I'm not too fussed on Colonization to be honest.

Have bought neither; might get Colonization whenever Civ4Complete is released (it hasn't been announced yet). Considering that I had six operating system installs in the past year, I definitely should not get Spore. DRM would render it worthless.

Granted, my most recent OS install has survived eight months and counting. But if I really like a game, then eventually I'm going to install it more than three times - I don't even know how many times I've installed Civ3 now, but it's in double-digits for sure and would be over 3 even without OS reinstalls. So any DRM that limits installs of a game means I'm definitely not going to buy it.

Bought it with Vista . For whatever reason, Vista and Civ3 didn't get along on my computer. I tried everything to get it to work, but nothing did, so I eventually I reinstalled Vista (install 2 - late September of last year). Surprisingly, that worked - for about 4 weeks. Then I had to reinstall again to get Civ3 to work again (install 3 - October). About six weeks later I tried to dual-boot Vista and Windows 98 so I could use Win98 for Civ3 and most other things and Vista for what required Win2K or later. This required installing MS-DOS first, as my Win98 was a Win3.11 upgrade, and MS-DOS installing required reinstalling Vista (install 4 - early December). I only got up to Win3.11 - 95 and 98 didn't install properly.

Still wanting to get rid of Vista, I turned to my next-best free alternative - Ubuntu Linux, which supposedly might be able to play Civ3 with Cedega. I got lazy on the guide I followed and skipped the last step of switching the bootloading back to Vista's instead of Ubuntu's. Three days later, Ubuntu's bootloader crashed, forcing me to reinstall Vista (install 5 - late December) - this time I skipped Ubuntu entirely. Later that week I finally got XP (install 6 - also late December), which has been running quite happily ever since, and getting along jollily with Civ3.

The hardware itself has been most cooperative and hasn't been a problem at all - it's even done well with overclocking and undervolting (this is a laptop). But my determination to play Civ3 and Vista's determination to not let me led to a lot of work and eventually OS reinstalls.

Civ4, of note, played just fine with Vista as well as XP. Ironically, it was Civ4 and not Civ3 for which Vista gave me a compatibility warning.

I wouldn't have gone to the trouble if I weren't a CivFanatic.

I bought bought spore just for the interim until Colonization is released. I'm a huge fan of the original, so I'm really looking forward to it.
