Need help with the Gameplay issue, Coins issue......
By the way, not sure if this is a ROM 2.3 or general gameplay issue, but how come I'm -39 coins every turn when I have 0 on research and 0 on spy. All my Cities make more coins than the Maintinence as well. Is there anyway to dig down to why I'm so negative every turn on coins? I mean I am in war for a long time already, but not sure does that affect it. Some of my Military guys left me already.....
noble gameplay, and I have been taking over a lot of cities and my army is HUGE. do you need a huge chunk of cash for a huge army? ( it would make sense if it did), but my army is like 30 units...ancient times with capults and light swordsman |

Ancient era? If you haven't got CoL yet, try to get it and build courthouses. That will help with the city maintenance, at least. If your research is at 0 and you're still in the red, you have a money drain somewhere. Maybe some cottages would help offset the cost of your military.
I can't give you a lot of really specific advice, but if you can post a saved game, there are some folks here who could probably help out. And if no one else has the RoM 2.3 mod, I do, and I'll take a look. You might get some bad advice from me though, I'm still new at this...

Pretty much waht everyone said about CoL and Army maintenance.
That said, I've dug myself out of that hole by just pillaging more. OK, LOT more. Yeah, you'll have to rebuild stuff, but it can help a bit with emergency funds. Also, you don't have to keep every city you ransack. It's hard to do that without CoL and many are not that well placed anyway. I'll grant you I'm not the best player but I'll usually only keep cities if they're where I would place them anyway or to stop some other opportunistic civ from sending settlers in to claim the land. |

Build some cottages.
And yes, for better advice, post a savegame.

Courthouses! And bring your units back into your territory. Units in your own territory will break off 11 from unit supply and then courthouses take off 50% maintenance from your cities which is another 25
if all of your cities get one.

That's absurdly high city maintenance. Looks like you've overexpanded - next time, consider razing cities that are far away and not immediately productive. You need to have a reasonable economic setup before you expand too much in civ4.
In the short term, whipping courthouses in the faraway cities is your answer. |

See this thread for some of the mechanics behind city maintainence and this one for unit maintainence and finally this one for civic maintainence. That should get you back on the one true path to destruction
