Naval victory.
Personally, I thought it was a little cheap to have the King's navy instantly warp into your coast and unload troops, especially since the man of wars totally outclass a ship of the line. Is that really necessary to increase the challenge? What about more ships?
However, even though you can't intercept them, I found that it does help to destroy them after they unload. I had two ships of the line thinking they might help me in some way. By expending both of them, I was able to sink one of the MoWs. From then on, the invasion pattern was a strong wave with 4 MoW filled with troops, followed by a weak one with 3 MoWs filled with troops. The 3 wave was alot more manageable. It seems to me that if you really focused on it, you could achieve a naval victory over the King.

If the King has focused all his attention on ground troops, it's possible to starve out his forces by destroying his fleet, thus getting a naval victory. It's iffy, though, since you'll LIKELY loose a SoL each time you hit a MoW, so you'll need to be able to keep parity with what the king throws at you. If he's got more than 20 or so ships, forget it and focus on guns.
