I have just won an independence victory by killing all king's man-o-war, but I didn't build/buy any warship. By the time I wiped out all the ships, king still got nearly 100 land troops waiting in Europe. However, civilization considers me as winning the independence victory. I didn't lose any of my 6 cities (2 "front coast cities" in an island, 2 back coast cities on continent to west of the island, 2 inland cities.)
I kept the villages in front of my BEST ECONOMY city. Then king's man-o-war always move into that village, then unload units. After killing all king's land units in the village, the ship would be destroyed too. Because I didn't build any warship, therefore King only got 7 man-o-war, but 100+ land units. Here is the map (not good drawing, I may add a screen capture image next time): SXXXXS SXXXNS SSXCXS SSSXXS SSSPSS S=sea; X=land; N=native village; C=my city/settlement P=ice/pole Last edited by best_defense; Oct 06, 2008 at 09:04 PM. |

Hmm... interesting to know.
So, the victory condition is either destroy all land troops OR destroy all ships

LOL, either you defeat your King in land OR his sea, you would be considered WINNER by the game!!!

The Text in the Dawn of War screen clearly implies i need to kill his land units... From some posts here i gather some other players do believe this as well...
But next time i will know better, so thanks for telling

So what you are saying is the REF docked in the native village - and you wiped out all their ships by attacking them in the village - so they didn't have any left to pick up the rest of their army in Europe? Genius.
![]() Also, this is a bit easier to tell, I think: SXXXXS SXXXNS SSXCXS SSSXXS SSSPSS S=sea; X=land; N=native village; C=my city/settlement P=ice/pole |

The drawing makes me wonder. How are you able to place your colony right next to the village? When I try to do that I am always told that there has to be at least one free tile between them. The AI always seem to be able to build right next to a native village though.

You can't place near other colonies.
You are however free to abuse the natives as much as you like.

Thnx for pointing out that destroying his fleet is enough.
I think this serves to point out the many different strategies possible in COL II. I always defend my cities vigoriously, so that the king will land his units outside them. Then I keep dragoons ready in inland cities, smashing the freshly landed troops with little effort before they can attack me. Now I will try letting the king take one city and see if I can defeat him faster than usual. Thanks
